XJ650 3 Years, 7 Months ago
Thinking about buying an 1980 XJ650 from a friend who has too many bikes. It runs good and he put a bunch of work into it tires, seat, brakes, battery. It's bone stock I'm thinking about making it a bobber or something. He's asking $900 and has $1100 into it himself.
What do you think?
Here's what it looks like except it's silver and blue XJ650

what's the mileage? Only you know if its right for you. Price sounds good. What are you planning on salvaging from this bike, if you're planning on building a bobber... just the engine?

Looks like a winner to me, the price is right. I have seen some great looking bobbers on EBAY made with 650s. The big guy here on the forum has one. One of my buddies has just sent his 650 frame off to have a solid rear end welded on for a bobber. Go for it.

It's only got 11,000miles on it. Only problems are top head gasket leaks a little and the timing chain needs adjusting and the forks are spongy. Not bad for a 28 year old bike
I might make it a cafe racer. I kinda wish it was a chain drive instead of shaft drive.

Steven..I'd work through the planning a bit mate. Think about what you want to achieve and how many $$$ the project will eventually cost...and what you will achieve....come up with a budget first...if it all stacks up right for you mate then go for it

Hey there Big Bear...is that an obsene gesture...or a roman asking for five beers (v) Sorry

Don't know the year of the bike in the pic but my 1st street bike was the 650 special. 1979 I believe and it was chain drive not shaft. Don't remember Yamaha making 650 shaft until later on.
