Gas tank compatability 3 Years, 7 Months ago
Where can I find a list or resource to determine what parts are compatible with my 2000 Roadstar? I specifically want to pick up a used tank so that I can begin practicing my painting without dropping a ton of coin, and end up with a piece I can actually use on my bike. Thanks!

That list does not exist. You could comb through Yamaha's parts fiche but that would take a rediculous amount of time.

Tanks that fit 2000, all years up to and including 2007. Rear fenders all years up to and including 2003, front fenders all years. Side covers all years fit all years.

This is from memory, so others hopefully will chime in if they know of any exceptions.

I think I will, but I'm not exaggrating the damage enough.
I am a beginner, but I trust the basics my father (a retired toolmaker/machinist) taught me. Take your time. Take your time. Breathe, sight, and squeeze... Take your time, do it right... Since I've come up with this idea to paint my own I've met with some phenomenal resto guys, they do cars but the principles are the same, and they say, "take your time, do it right, don't go cheap. Have fun with it, and make it yours."

Dented tanks take a lot more skill to repair than a dented fender.

I thought you could put a .5 dose of C4 per Gal. of cap. in a tank and when you put the cap on with a 1/4 in hole in it and set off the C4 it blows the dents back out. Every Marine has some of this in the shop (C4) It worked on my Club Cadet anyways. It went something like that..... JK'ing For real, in case I find any spare parts, what IS the process? I was thinking like Fiberglass but I have no idea. But I bet it's a pain. MC

I have a dented tank that I fixed but didn't do such a good job so don't ask me for advice

If it's not creased or stretched you can use dry ice to pop it back out.
