AIS removal 3 Years, 7 Months ago
I am curious about the laws in other states regarding removal of the AIS. I see alot of discussion on this site about removing the AIS. Here in environmentally concerned Oregon it is a $10,000 fine if you are caught modifying or removing such devices. This would also apply to removing the catalytic converter from your car. YUK. The local Yamaha dealer has even stopped rejetting carbs except that they will rejet back to stock.

What about other states?

This may be an oversimplification, but as I understand it considering that AIS doesn't actually reduce emissions, just dilutes them to acceptable levels I don't know why pulling it off would have any affect at all other than to clean up the engine and reduce the backfire.....

Seems it's just another one of those senseless government rules that have no reason for even being there except to make someone feel good.

I may be true but in any case, even in Canada where we have a lot of fresh air , it's against the law to disable or remove air pollution devices.

Only certain counties in PA have emissions testing (not mine), so it's really the only way they'd find out unless they really knew the model. I take my bike to a Kawasaki dealer for the annual inspection, so what do they know about the R*?

Not too worried about it, really. First off, the kit makes the thing look so clean I figure I'll just play dumb. Worse comes to worse I can put the crap back on but just plug all the lines.

I will say, though, that I had it that way for a couple of weeks before getting a removal kit, and when I did remove the lines they had a bunch of water in 'em from condensation. Yuk!

I questioned this very thing back when I was putting on pipes and Hypercharger. The Yamaha dealer was the one who sold me the kit to remove the AIS, which they said was only required in California. Since they have to make the bike 50 State legal, they build them to California emission standards. Now, here in TEXAS, we don't care what they do in California!

Also, there are no emission tests done on Motorcycles in Texas. Ain't it great!!!

It's pretty stupid actually. I'm in California and they require all this stuff for motorcycles, but there is no emissions testing done on motorcycles, only on cars. There's not even an inspection done on motorcyles, just buy em and mod em....no one watching.
