i found a strange looking nut this morning 3 Years, 6 Months ago
while polishing my bike this morning i found a nut laying right on top of the oil filler cap on the crank case. it is a funny looking nut with a 5/8" wide washer base, then the nut 1/4" and no pass threw for the bolt. a capped nut if you will.i got out the service manual and had no luck locating where this nut belongs. i rode my bike for about 15 miles last night and parked it, i also just had the tranny recall work done about 450 miles ago. does someone in clinic land have a clue for me to chase? spudwrench, out

Like ultrastar said ,it sounds like the nut to the bolt holding the rear of the gas tank on. If it is your lucky it stayed on the bike.

Thats my vote too given the side it was found on and its location. Look directly in front of your seat on that side under the tank. The bolt goes in from the left side of the bike and the nut goes on the right side. This bolt is basically all that holds that tank on so please remember to fix this asap. Good lookin bike btw

Re:i found a strange looking nut this morning 3 Years, 6 Months ago
IT APPEARS AS THOUGH THE BOLT HOLDING THE TANK TO THE FRAME IS NOT STOCK, IT'S SLIGHTLY LONGER. THEREFORE THE CAPPED NUT WOULD BOTTOM OUT BEFORE THE TANK WAS TIGHT TO THE FRAME. THERE IS A NYLOC/NYLON INSERTED NUT ON THE BOLT NOW AND EVERYTHING IS TIGHT, I PLACED THE FACTORY CAPPED NUT OVER THE NYLOC TO GET THAT AUTHENTIC LOOK. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU AT THE ROADSTAR CLINIC FOR YOUR HELP. SPUDWRENCH,OUT

There is also a washer about 3/32 thick that goes under it
