Re:Tires - Again... 3 Years, 6 Months ago
Earlier in the year, I bought ME880WW front and rear online for about $265 delivered (I don't remember exactly). Local Yamaha dealer charged me $85 or so (at most $100) to install both. The price you were quoted seems to be on the very high side. I love the Metzeler tires. The bike felt much lighter, nimble and like a completely different bike. Good luck.

BTW, does any one know what is normal for tire pressure lose? My bike was sitting around for a while and the front is pretty flat and the rear had only 25psi. It doesn't seem normal.

Dang Frank if you got that kind of money to throw around then throw some my way.

I would seriosly rethink that price. It is outrageous. That is like $130.00 just to install a tire. No thank you man.

My local dealer only charged $45.00 to do my wifes V-Star rear wheel (with a drive shaft). They only charge $30.00 for the rear Roadstar. Any wheel off the bike only $20.00.

So yeh Buddy I would look elsewhere.

Thanks. I'm definitely re-thinking things. I'll probably do it myself.

Might want to try a small independent shop, a lot of times if you order the tire from them, they will install it at a discount, and in many cases, the cost of the tire is as good if not better than the online stuff after you toss in shipping and handleing..

There's an idea. The somewhat more local independent shop is set up for Harleys right now, but the owner said that the metrics are beating him to death, so I think he's going to tool up for the rice burners, too. He already carries an extensive line of Kuryakyn stuff... I might check with him.

Frank last Dec. I had my Dealer put both a front and rear cruisemax www on mine and it came to $313.00. Just something to compare.

Frank I just bought a set of ME 880's for $235, give or take a dollar or two, delivered to my door. I got them from,( ronayers.com ) They are not www's just black. I put them on myself and it only took me a couple of hours. I wasn't in no hurry. If you do it yourself, just watch the arrows for the direction of the tire it's not very hard to change them. And yes, I had to take the rear tire off and put it on the right direction. DOOOH. Looked at that thing at least 4 times and still backwards.

DJ, I have the same kind of luck. If there's a way to do something backwards and upside down, I'm pretty sure I'll find it. Any job that is supposed to take an hour will usually take me three hours.

DJ, I've thought about mounting my own tires, but, how do you balance them? Thats pretty much the only reason I've taken it in for the stealership to mount on the wheels off the bike.

Anyone else mount their own?

Ratl.
