I am 5'2" and had 750 Honda Shadow with out any mods I was able to sit flat footed on it. I had not rode in a long time and this was a good bike to get back into on. Big enough but not to bike...

I had a set of slant bags that where to small for the R*, so I listed them on Craigslist. The woman who bought them put them on her Honda VLX, she was about 5' something and was a grandma about 60 years old just starting to ride. She seemed to handle it well and it was a nice looking smaller bike, another cantidate anyway....

thanks everyone for all the great input. We looked at the v-stars today and the dealer also had an 08 boulevard and also a 09 shadow. The boulevard fit her perfectly and was quite a bit lighter than all the others that we checked out. It is only a single cylinder but after starting it up, it seemed to be balance very well for a one lunger. I am pretty partial to the star line, but I may have to wander for the sake of the children!
And for those of you that are worried, a rider course will definatly be in order before the first ride. Thanks again all.

In the cruisers, I'll chime in another vote for the V-Star 650...and the Suzuki C50.
Have a coworker who is height challenged, 5'1" if she's lucky. She rides a Ducati 695 Monster she had lowered and she loves it.

Holy Smokes! I thought I was gonna have trouble finding a bike that would fit her. You guy's have made this into a "which bike to buy her" problem. I didn't realize how much competition there is in these smaller bikes. Good thing I started looking early.

To go along with the rider training course, you may want to look at the "Ride Like a Pro" video series. They were made by a group of motorcycle officer trainers and are loaded with good info and drills to practice. They have helped me to ride better, and the rest of my family will be be practicing their techniques before the taking the rider's coarse.

My wife currently rides my old VStar 650 Classic. Of course when she acquired it it was already set up for her. Had to change a few things back to stock for her but it works. It has been lowered with a Corbin Gun Fighter seat, which the two of them make it pretty low. And she just loves it.
