Ok, so in preparation for touring, assuming its the $1,000...
1. How about a fairing (the WOC fairing is about $800 and comes with stereo). Though you will have to get it painted. You can check with coachdan or one of the other guys who have fairings with two tone paint to get an idea of how much that would cost to do. May slightly exceed your slated budget. Might save some money and just get it painted blue. Could probably go to an auto-body shop and see if they could do this. Hopefully not more than $250. Don't know though. Let me know as I was thinking of doing this myself.
2. Or a luggage rack and some touring luggage? This would be cheaper.
3. You can also check into a hitch. Trailers are expensive, but somebody yesterday on the RSC was talking about a homemade trailer he made for under $500.
4. Hi-way pegs are essential for long ride. Integrated or mounted to frame or engine guard, you got choices
5. Seat options?

Hey Darn Oldie
I talked to a couple different Yamaha dealers about the OEM and extended warranty before I started making many changes. They both said that what would be effected, would be the item I replaced, changed, or altered. Such as, relocating the fuel pump, my fuel pump is no longer covered under warranty, but did not effect anything else under warranty. Best to talk to your dealer about what they will, and will not do. One of them (my dealer) also said that their service manager had the final say for their shop. So I talked with him about some of the things on my agenda, and felt alot better about not voiding my warranty.
As far as pulling a camper, that's a different story. You might want to talk to your dealer about that, or maybe you shouldn't let them know about plans to tow. I was tinkering around with a thought here a while back, and talked to a HD dealer about towing with a new Ultra Classic, and they said that it wouldn't be a problem for them, but if a HD Rep saw a new bike out n the road with a hitch on it, they would void warranty, and flag VIN # for all time to come. Well, that was enough for that thought.

I guess this is my short list for now:
1) Cobra Fatty engine bar with Hwy pegs
2) Ultimate seat w/backrest
3) Fairing with CD/FM (I can paint it myself)
4) Luggage rack & Hard Tour trunk with passenger backrest and arms
5) K&N Air filter kit - Rejet
6) 31 tooth clutch
7) Trailer hitch (if it doesn't void the warranty)
8) Maybe new exhaust (I'm not a fan of loud pipes)
I know this is more than $1000, but it's a nice list to work from

Hope your list doesn't do like mine. Every time I check one off the top, two more will somehow appear on the bottom.

Find yourself a set of risers that you like. I got some Barons KickBack risers for about 50 bucks, used. Made a heck of a difference. If you want to tour, find some Bucks Lowers. This made the biggest difference in comfort on my Roadie. I put in 2 Ironbutt runs in 7 days last summer (3000 in 8 days). These bikes tour great with just these small changes. An Ultimate seat is, well, the Ultimate but pricey seat. Stage 3 the pipes (free), put a K&N RC1980 filter ($45)& rejet.
