Im actually kinda surprised that it worked the way it did. The gold color is caused by too lean of a fuel mixture and making the exhaust burn too hot thus causing "superheated" gases down the pipe and burning the pipe from the inside. Im gonna have to try it. I got some gold going on just under the bags. If ya have a prob with a lot of gold in your pipes ya need to take care of that mixture because you will burn a hole right thru the top of your piston. I have seen it happen, usually on the older HD beacuse the fuel wants to get sucked into the rear cylinder and the front doesnt get as much.........soory didnt mean to hijack this. I will be quiet now.

Well, that discoloration was already on the pipes when I bought the bike. Now that I've got it cleaned up, I can monitor whether or not it's still a problem. If it is, then I'll be able to address it. It hasn't seemed to have gotten worse since I bought the bike, so it's likely that the previous owner ran it too lean, burned the pipes, and then corrected it. We'll see....

Gidday Frank...I local guy here recommended that product to me. I'll have to get hold of some.

I've been using Purple on mine and so far I've been happy with the results. http://www.ultrashine.com.au/products/metal/metalPolish.asp

It is a fine line. The roadie is a little better off lean than rich with the SVS issues. Extreme either way is not good.

Emu:

Thanks, Java. Like I said, now that I've got the crud cleaned off of it, I'll keep an eye on it. If it starts burning the pipe again, then I'll know that it's something that I need to address.

No, actually. I've only had the bike a couple of months and it's been running like a champ, so I haven't looked at them. Probably a good idea to check 'em, huh?

if you get some down time this winter, it would be something you might want to do. I changed mine out at 5k. I know BB always said his liked new plugs at 5K also.
