That question has come up many times here, and the answer always seems to be the same...don't let it warm up by idling--warm it up while you ride it. Any idling, enricher or not, seems to increase the chances of gumming up the works ala SVS. Regardless of temp and enricher use, it's never more than 30 seconds after I start it before I'm off and going. Several miles down the road the enricher gets shut off. Works great.

I pretty much never use the choke. My bike will fire up immediately upon hitting the starter giving it a little gas. I give it a few minutes to quit running so rough(cold). It's still warming up for the first few minutes of riding so I take it easy. It doesn't take long and once warmed up it runs great!!

Okay... Dumb question: I always thought that revving the engine with the choke on was a bad idea. (I don't know WHY I thought it was a bad idea..) Anyway, it's no problem to rev the engine or ride with the choke on?

My Roadie would never run right summer or winter since I had it. But Alas, I have the Benn Herr Manifold installed. Dealer pre warmed it for me today before I picked it up. Here in Ohio it was 21 degrees then, I rode for about 30 miles and tried it out. Another thread, But normally I start it with full choke, 1.8 throttle and I sneak the choke in as i am getting all MY clothes on. Then whenever that is despite the choke I take off and keep adjusting in in until it idles correctly without it and without stalling. But this was old Leaky manifold method.
So why did I say anything?

Frank--
It's only a bad idea if you never turn it off...
Seriously, though, you are doing it no harm by riding with the choke on to warm it up. Just push the knob back in at some point. I've done a 100 mile commute with the knob all the way out. Ran crappy & I found out why when I got home (DOH! ) Damage done: wasted gas and feeling like a dumba$$.

Thanks! That would certainly make my warm-ups a lot quicker in the mornings. Plus, I don't like sitting there in the driveway with it running. It's not overly loud, but I leave for work between 0600 and 0630 every morning, and my retired neighbors probably don't appreciate that.

I've got some of those engine guard chaps on mine and they do help. I start mine with the enricher out and push it half in after 20 to 30 seconds and ride. Just take it easy for a mile or two.
