issues? 1 Month, 3 Weeks ago

Ya know...I understand the "harley Thing" now..I've never had a bike that I've had to give so much attenion to as my RoadStar. Yet the bike has so much character . Great fit and finish, super highway ride....Yet always tinkering..
Must be what it's like to own a harley
After spending so much time on this bike ,I feel a fondness for it since I have resolved so many issues. ( thanks to this Clinic )

A bad day riding is better than a good day at work

Yeah I know what you mean. I find I don't have to do much maintenance between rides, just the wiping down afterwards. But just like the ride, the cleanup is very therapeutic also to clear the head.

ok I think I'm missing it. Jim says he's constantly having to tinker yet the next post says its maintenance free. in my experience, the bike really is virtually maintenance free. People also talk about the bike having to warm up first but I have to admit I crank mine and I'm generally rolling within a minute. However long it takes me to put my gloves on.

Part of the reason I choose a R* was NOT having to constantly wipe up oil, adjust stuff or bolt things back on that vibrate off. I wanted a bike that I could ride, not one that I'd need to wear out my tools wrenching on.
If I wanted to work on a motorcycle more than I ride it, I'd go to work in a shop someplace. I'm not brand bashing here at all. There are plenty of badges that require WAY more down time than our beloved Roadies. I'm simply saying I'm glad that our bikes seem to like to be ridden more than worked on.

The Roadie is a great bike. I will add I think most are all great bikes. Seems most of the problems we encounter on any bike are results from something we have done to them. I havent had one with the exception of an old 1973 Yamaha that I "had" to work on to keep it running. My roadstar, my honda and my harley are all pretty much fill the tank and go. I am like Jim though in that I love to add things and I actually like cleaning the bike. It seldom if ever rolls out dirty from a previous ride. Cleaning it each night when I put it away is just part of the experience for me.

Had an AMF HD Sportster. Loved the thing but it had problems. A lot of what I learned about MC repair I learned from that bike (clutch, jug gaskets, cases, etc.). I actually got it to stop leaking! Then the wife hadda go and get pregnant so... The R* is virtually maintenance free but the "maintenance" comes from the mods and the fact it still shakes a few nuts and bolts loose sometimes. I have nothing against any other brand or model but I'll probaly never own another bike because the R* fits my needs just right.

I more or less bought my Roadie on a whim. I didn't know much about motorcycles when I went looking. The one I bought just happened to be sitting there... Usually, I have such terrible luck, my life looks like one big losing streak, but every once in a while, the sun shines on a dog's azz, I guess.

one thing I hate about the R* is ya have to remove the gas tank to change or check the plugs...geesh
but outside of the tranny recall the R* seems to be defect free
fouling of the rear plugs have been the only issue with me

I'm sort of like Frank on this, I owned a Suzuki Boulevard, took it in for service, saw the Road* sitting there, loved the way it looked (even stock) had the power I wanted, took the ball and chain for a ride, she gave me the OKey Dokey and the dealer gave me full pay off on my Suzuki plus $4000 off the sticker on the Roady, so I just couldn't pass it up!
No issues with the bike at all, not one! I plan to do some mods, but as the old saying goes "if it works good, don't mess with it". Well I believe in that saying, so it might stay stock for awhile.
