How much better is Fuel injection on these bikes than a carb?

Outside of warm up on cold days I don't think EFI is any better than a carb. It's just a different system. My 2 cents anyway.

What Musky said and I am not sure you get the old V-Twin lop like you do wit a carb. As for gas mileage I don't know what kind of milage the FI are getting. Guess you could still port an FI manifold, and think that you can get a BAK for them and you can get a Dyna for them and dial it in. I just think they may be a little more complacated like the cars have gotten. Us old wrenchs like the carbs.

I believe it’s better. It compensates for altitude change or barometric pressurewhere you don’t have to have your bike retted. It warms up better. It gives a more consistent air fuel mixture through out the complete rpm band. The engine will have less rich or lean spots through out the cycle. That’s why cars have it now. Most bikes will in the near future. It is easier to control the emissions standards that keep changing. They change again in 2010. I would bet that is one of the reasons that Yamaha now makes the roadie come with EFI. JMO

I'll add that with the new tuners for EFI, you can download MAPs from sites that have already done the research for different exhaust combinations and have it pretty much dialed in. You can also take it to someone with a dyno and have a custom MAP made for it to get peak performance or gas mileage. what ever you are looking for. From what I am reading, and talking with my brother who has an indy shop, Its easier than rejetting and alot less guessing.

fuel injection is a much more effecient way of delivering fuel to the cylinders. Carbs have to be set up to encompass a wide range of variables, which you can't change while riding down the road. Fuel inj has a more instant throttle response and can deliver the perfect air fuel ratio through out the entire rpm range.

can you tell I have been reading articles on it the last hour or so? It is pretty interesting stuff.

And Curt is correct, you do not get the lope like the older HD's with EFI. that is one of the casualties of EFI.

Indy... as in independant shop. He has Team Jason in Demotte Indiana. About 100 miles north of you on I 65. Specializes in racing dirt bikes and 4 wheelers. He used to work for a dealer that had Honda, Yamaha and Kawi for several years. He also does most of the guys around here work that have Honda's. Honda pulled the dealer here several years ago.

I guess we are hijacking the thread, and I dont want to do that, but yes I know it. Sheridan has some of the strongest high school football teams in the state year in and year out. They kicked our tail in the regionals a couple of years ago.
