You don't need the Barnett clutch plates if yours are still OK. The OEM clutch plates are just as good if not better.

I have the Barnett spring and it's great. There's are article in the Tech Tips on how to install.

Doc,
What is different about the Barnett spring over stock spring? I sit a stronger spring with more pressure on the clutch plates? Is this how a guy can get away with using synthetic motor oil without slippage?

Synthetic oil doesn't cause clutch slippage. Unless you're using oil with friction modifiers in it.

Anti oil debate statement - This has been my experience anywho.

The stock spring, and the SpeedStar spring, is like a metal plate. The SpeedStar spring is just heavier.

The Barnett spring is a collection of 6 small springs.

You can see them here ... http://www.hellrisercustoms.com/selector.php?group=1&category=Performance&subcat=Clutch+kit&title=Performance%20products%20for%20RoadStar

Big difference between them and stock. It's also good for building up your wrist.

The stock spring setup is barely adequate with the torque produced by the R*.

You can use synthetic oil without friction modifiers with the stock clutch. I would not use an oil with friction modifiers even with these conversions.

"The stock spring setup is barely adequate with the torque produced by the R*".
Doc, do you mean that a guy should consider upgrading my '05 RS clutch spring even if I've had no trouble with it yet?
Sometimes it feels likee the rear wheel is spinninng on hill when I goose the throttle. My bike has just over 4,000km with no abuse ....yet.

Which is best? The Barnett springs, or the SpeedStar spring?
Thanks! (By the way, that sure was a sharp looking Shadow you used to have! )
Your Roadie looks awesome too, can't wait to see it with the new graphics your'e planning. )

The bike has so much torque that it's easy to spin the back tire; it may not be the clutch that is slipping. I don't know if the 1700 has an upgraded spring but I doubt it. Do you need to upgrade? Maybe not. Some guys go the life of the bike without having slippage problems. Just make sure your current setup is adjusted properly.

You have 3 choices .... Yamaha SpeedStar, Warrior or Barnett

Which one to put in? I think any of the 3 will do the trick. The Barnett is probably the strongest but I'm just speculating here.

The Barnett is a bit tricky to install; I had to go back in and re-install mine as after buttoning it all up the clutch was slipping. The Barnett had a hard pull to it, especially with SS cables, but it has a positive engagement feel. I'm happy with it.

Thanks for the comps.

After installing my big bore kit, I installed the warrior speedstar clutch spring....it has performed as it is suppose to. I haven't had one bit of slippage at all. Definately go with a warrior speedstar spring....it's easy to install and it is much cheaper. Good luck
