What's in a name? 1 Month, 1 Week ago
I'm sure you all may have seen this before but if you do a search on google and type
'road star' if you look to the link for ebay it says this:

Road Star
Bid on Road Star now!
Find Mature Audience Items.

www.eBay.com

Then I thought about it. Road Star = Porn Star. What kind of engine are they using???

Anyway, does anyone know how yamaha came-up with the 'Star' name? Does it have anything to do with the Japanese Rising Sun vs. the evil night with stars?

I apologize for asking this as this is my first Yamaha. I tried wikipedia and it said it was a British hard rock band. Hmmm, maybe I should buy one of their albums.

If I were gonna start a new custom bike line I think I would have come-up with something a bit more manly than 'Star.' Maybe "DarkStar" or something Sci-Fi like "Fusion Motorcycles" or "CycleTrek" maybe even "War Horse".

I'm not trying to bash *, but it might help me argue the name a bit around my riding buddies and sound more intelligent to the chicks if I knew how the name was derived.

The Star name has been around a few years. When they seperated the line for the rest of the Yamaha names. I guess I never gave it a thought. It doesnt matter much to me. I liked the bike.

Road Star?????????mmmmmmmmmmmm Guess it means the way it sounds. There's no feeling like climbing aboard and riding up the middle of a long valley or pulling a tall mountain. Mine has taken me from below sea level to 12,000 feet with narry a problem Just my take on it.

I guess I don't understand what you're trying to say here. I don't see where you would ever have to argue the name. Or why someone would question it if they actually have. The word "Star" gets used all the time. "He's a star" meaning he's made it to the top. The best. The Star of the show. The one to watch. The Road Star. They could call it the Road Spoon I guess. But that would bring up unrelated stuff in a search that uses key words too.

Wow. I never thought there would be a thread discussing the meaning of ROAD STAR.

ROAD - [1]an identifiable route, way or path between places. Roads are typically smoothed, paved, or otherwise prepared to allow easy travel.

STAR - [1] One who is highly celebrated in a field or profession. [2]Outstanding or famous, especially in performing something. [V.]To do an outstanding job; perform excellently.

So what have we learned.
ROAD STAR - A highly celebrated, outstanding, and famous motorcycle that performs excellently on an identifiable route, way, or path that is typically smoothed , paved , or otherwise prepared to allow easy travel.

Then the deep thinking geniuses at Yamaha just had to come up with a clever symbol to go with thier new profound name. HMMM, what kind of symbol would go with that name????????? A Star.

Class dismissed
