When they talk about "over" it usually means over stock length, and it would
be the tubes that are longer.Rake is something differant. Some triple trees
Do add rake, which on a stock bike you would have to lengthen the tubes
to come back to stock ride height.Putting the tire father out front.
Hope I didn`t confuse you too much Say you just added longer tubes to
your front end it would raise the height and clearance.

Vegasdave touched on the problems with changing the bikes geometry.

The stock R* is setup with so that the rider is 'comfortable', which means it's not too 'quick', stable but not a bear to turn in parking lots, etc.

Any raising, lowering, extending, etc., changes these characteristics and if you don't know what you are doing you may end up with an unacceptable ride.

Check out this link to help you understand ..... http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/advchoppercalc.html or
http://perseperformance.com/

But you should be aware that trail is not the only thing that affects your ride. For example, if you add longer front forks (+2) to the front the rake does not change and so the trail stays the same but ..... if you ride a bike with 6+ over forks you'll have a differet 'feeling' that the stock bike as the centre of gravity has been affected.

A 4+ on my bike gave be about 1.5" at the front floorboard bolt but I have a 6 degree triples. On the stock triple it would probably be around 2" You can figure out how much the front end would raise by calculating it out.

Whose front end it that?

Have you tried adjusting the spring? Or maybe going to a stronger spring would help.

In that case, go with what Muskie suggested.

For you (I think you said you were 300 lb ) I'd recommend the 1000 lb spring. You can also get the progressive spring (which is very nice) if you have more cash.

Try here: http://www.nopork.com/rshop_bybike.asp?mdel=Yamaha+Roadstar&grp=Frame+%26+Body&subcat=Suspension
