Metzeler ME880 tire pressure 3 Years, 5 Months ago
|
|
My new ME 880's go on the bike Monday. I have read on several internet pages a vast variation of suggested tire pressures. I would love suggestions from the experts here. 130/90-16 is going on the front and 150/80-16 on the rear. Tubeless on cast wheels if that matters.
Appears 38 front and 46 rear have been mentioned here before.
Thanks in advance for your help.

06 1700cc I am running 37 front and 45 rear but my rear is a 160. You have to play with your pressures. Do like 40 front and 47 rear and go for a ride maybe 10 miles to get the tires warmed up. Ride about 5 more miles after warm up. Pull over let a couple pounds out and go back the five miles. Keep doing this same loop (5 miles) on the same route letting out a couple pounds at a time till you get what is comfortable for you and the bike.
I would not go below 33 front and 40 rear. They will be too soft and wear to quickly. Hope this helps man. God Bless OSO

metzler recommends running marked pressure at one time they had a few blow outs. The rational behind the blows were low pressure and the way the side wall is constructed. The least you might go would be 5 less than marked. They have stated that the pressure on their tire is critical to the construction of the tire as well as ware also they recommend not using any harsh tire cleaners as a side bar. I have the wide whites and that is a hard one for me. Great tire your getting keep it safe.

I put on a set front and rear. The dealer put 42 front and 45 rear. Anyway that is what was in them when I got home. Seems to ride a bit rougher that the bridgestones I had, but maybe they require that much pressure?

Under the seat is a decal that suggests what to put in. Then we have factors, such as size, weight on the bike, expected weather conditions, travel surfaces, expected temperatures, distance of travel........... It's a question that has to be answered with, several questions. I'm convinced only the rider can determine. Somewhere between whats under the seat and on the sidewall not going above or below max. It was 27 degrees when I left Thursday and it's going to be 18 degrees when I get back. About 2lbs over minimum for that ride is good, especially in the snow. It's all a matter of what you have on and what your going to do with it today. The gigantic thing is, check your air very often. MC
