Leather 3 Years, 2 Months ago
Planning on some leather accents for the bike. But because it's silver colored I'm looking to go with a silver tanned or complimentary colored leather. Did some research on leather and it ain't all created equal. Now I just gotta find a reasonable source to buy from. Going with the floorboard fringe, some lowers/windshield accents and maybe something from the fender rears. any insights? Not planning to utilize an entire hide in the process though. Maybe half.

You can try Tandy Leather I buy all my leather working tools and supplies from them. Do a search on line and you should be able to find a store near you if not you can order stuff on line.

Re:Leather 3 Years, 2 Months ago
Been checking out various online outlets for hides. One I found that's reasonable is http://justleather.com/. One major item I'd like to do is Desert Dawg type covers with pockets for the crash bars. Got a local gal who'd sew it for me but her prices are rather high for a finished set. She wants $40 to $50 for the floorboard fringe alone. I figure can do better than that. Trying to keep costs down as much as possible (read: cheap a$$). Got some 3/8" Plexiglas for lowers and with the article I found here on the Clinic I can make those for a good low price.

You sound like me. I had a friend of my wife that gave us her old sewing machine and I use it to sew all my patches and leather stuff with. I am making my own lowers as well and will try and finish them tomorrow. I try to make all my stuff if I can. Now that is cheap.

Ain't that the way of the world today? Besides, when we make it our own, they didn't say how. I look at it as a learning curve. Testing my abilities as a two wheeled knight of the road. Kind of a McGuiver on 2 wheels.

When you do your own fabricating, sewing, or whatever, it's a great feeling. You really have the pride of ownership, then. Especially when someone compliments your ride or something you've fabricated.

"Man! That's cool! Where'd you get that?"
"I made it."

My grandmother used to thump us on the top of our head when we got under her quilting frames. So I'm pretty much scared of anything like that.

I wish I could do this. Looking to buy leather mud flaps, fork covers, floorboard trim, tank bra but alas don't have the equipment to do this, nor want to spend a fortune on a setup that will cost me more than just buying the pieces I want outright.
