the `why didn´t you buy a harley?´ question i´ve found comes more from non bike riders here (normally after they say `nice harley´, and i tell them it´s a yamaha)

however there is a certain joy in, when asked by a harley rider why you didn´t buy a harley, replying with their favourite mantra.....

`if i gotta explain, you wouldn´t understand´

Every where I go, or should I say stop, I get the same comment "Nice Harley". If you don't see the Yamaha stickers and are not a bike enthusiast I guess it would be easy enough to mistake the R* V-Twin for an HD. To be honest when I put my R* next to the wifes Softail it is sometimes hard for me to see much difference.

I purchased a 2005 HD RoadKing thinking I was getting a great bike, keep in mind I traded in my 2002 1100 Silverado. I thought I'd be getting more bike, more power, the prestige and all. I got prestige, I got cool HD stuff...lots of it. My other biker pals all enjoyed it too...since I had given up my V Star. 5 months lated after stage one kits, aftermarket pipes and all the other cash spent I was still wondering where all the power was for passing...blaaaaahh. I went crusing one day, saw the local Yamaha dealer and stopped in saw a nice Roadie and took a ride. Instant liking...especially the power and speed. traded in the Harley lowered my payment and my insurance and had a grin from ear to ear...still do. Caught lot's of crap from my freinds till I asked them if they wanted to race That is not a slam on HD...very cool bike, just not the bike for me.

i have owned everything from a 43 wr to a 73 superglide ,pans early shovels knuckles and 80 cube flat heads with a k model in between i'll take my Roadie anytime over the hd's i think the most problem with the hd riders is we stand outside the norm like they used too there was a time when no selfrespecting hd rider would ride anything else but a limey bike i have seen now allot of those hd rides changing to Valkryies interesting i think some day as we get long in the tooth we might be saying the same thing to people not rideing a yamaha v twin now wouldn't that be ironic

I've been considering a big cruiser for some time and have finally settled on the Road Star.

I've thought long and hard about HD but to be quite honest I like to ride a bike that not everyone else has. I went down to the local bike meet over the Xmas holidays and the most common make of bike by a long way was HD.

As soon as I saw the Road Star I liked it. It's not sold officially in the UK any more and I don't expect there will be many of these around at all. It also appears that it's an excellent bike for customising to your own personal taste.

It's nice to be different. Getting mine on the 24th Jan. I'll be sorry to see my Triumph go but it's time for a change and I'm more than happy with the choice.

Maybe it's just a question without any hidden meaning. When I buy a new car I often get asked "Why did you buy a ???".

I've experienced attitudes from HD riders when on my R* but the behaviour is not restricted to HD riders. I've also noticed it from some people 'cause my house is not big enough, my clothes are not 'in' this year, I don't drive a certain brand, etc.

Love some of the HD's and wish that I could afford (the room) to have more than one cruiser.

What you did to that Roadie is pretty awesome Doc. I cant see how anybody would question your bike!

I bought mine last June, an immaculate 2000 Roadstar with 9000 miles on it for $5200. I think I got a pretty sweet deal. I park it at work in a motorcycle area at the military hospital I work at, have had nothing but great comments on it, with one exception.
A guy with a new Harley wanted to know why I removed the tank logo(I didnt, bought it that way). He told me if i wasnt proud of it, get a real bike. I asked him how much he paid for his, and it shut him right down.
