Hey there,

I was thinking that HK big straights were going to be good for me, but everyone says they are loud (setting off car alarms and such). I leave my neighborhood @ 3 in the morning, and try to slip out without waking up the block. I want my R* to sound great, but not shake the walls of my house. Any other suggestions. Thanks again, the info I get here is the best.

Pman

Stock really!

Unless you don't like the style then ....

The V&H ProPipe and Roadhouse Classic 2to 1's are fairly quite if you don't get on them on take-off. Both have a deep rich tone.

Most 2 to 2 pipes will be loud. It's difficult to get really effective baffle inside such a small space.

Check out this post. ... http://roadstarclinic.com/component/option,com_simpleboard/Itemid,91/func,view/id,14397/catid,49/limit,10/limitstart,10/

mruder has also designed some restrictive baffles. Start a new post to him and ask him how quite they are.

Have put V&H LongShots on my '06 Star - they too are loud, but not as loud as some aftermarket shorties. I'm not sure you'll find any non-baffled pipes that will not sound too loud at 3 in the morning when everything else is deadly quiet.

I personally love my Bub Jug Huggers. They have a great sound when just cruising, but they really wake up when I get on the gas hard. Not only that, but the look great too. I have been told by many other bikers, including older Harley guys, that I have the best sounding Roadstar that they have ever heard. Not to mention, they perform as good if not better as they look and sound. I"m very happy with the Bubs and I would highly recommend them to anybody. But....thats just me

I have the Cobra Speedster Slashdowns with the baffles in place. It is loud, but I have not bothered the neighbors when I leave on early morning rides. I have asked those closest to me about noise and nobody has noticed. The Cobra's really bark when you get on it, but only rumble when you idle down the neighborhood. I have several friends with the V&H and those babies will wake the dead by comparison. In a spirit of full disclosure, my Cobra's did disturb a proximity alarm on a car one time and casued it to churp at me every time I blipped the throttle.

No two pipe is going to be covert, but I love the sound and just take it easy in the neighborhood.

I think pretty much most aftermarket exhausts will set off car alarms....me and another buddy who has an 03 Roadie with V&H longshots, like to cruise the main drags in front of bars and crack the throttle just to set off the alarms....lol It's always a good laugh at the next stop light.....lol

Re:exhaust 4 Years, 1 Month ago
I have had the Stage 3 mod. done on my stock pipes for 2 years now.
Maybe I'm just getting old, but I am thinking it is time to get it quieter, as I hate that much noise on the long trips. It gets to be too much after about 6 hours of riding. And the cops hate it!!
(I have a set of brand-new stock pipes still in the box, but I don't want to go back to the stock quietness. I also do not want to touch those brand-new pipes or modify them at all, so they will stay in their box until I NEED to go back to stock quiet. (When I'm 92!!) )
I was thinking of getting a set of shark-tailed RH Doolies, but don't want to spend $630. I kinda like the look of the stock pipes as well.

I was also thinking of making some homemade baffles to fit inside my Stage 3'd stock pipes to cut the noise "just a bit." I am thnking of trying a couple of soup cans inside the pipes for now to just expiriment. The "door lock striker plates" are not enough for this application.
Anyone have any good suggestions for fabricating baffles?
The outlets of the stock pipes are about 2.75 inches round.
