Fuel Mileage 3 Years, 1 Month ago
|
|
|
Maybe someone can shed some light on this. I just bought my first R* new last month. It is a 2008. It has 286 miles on it and I have gone through 2 1/2 tanks of gas so far. When the fuel low warning light came on last time I decided to check it with my trip meter. I filled it up from empty and I think I remember it took 3 1/2 or almost 4 gallons. I forgot to get a receipt. It is now a little above 1/2 tank and I have only put 48.5 miles on it since fill up. The owners manual says the tank has a capacity of 4.76 Gals and the fuel reserve amount is .9 Gals. It doesn't specify if the capacity of 4.76 includes the fuel reserve or not. Seems like it is getting lousy fuel mileage.
It says in the manual that .9 Gals (Reserve)remain in the tank when the needle reaches "Empty". So I guess the 4.76 capacity includes the reserve. Still seems like it is getting lousy mileage though.

There has been a lot of discussion on that topic, you could do a searh and read about it all day, but what you will find is how you ride makes a world of difference........

FIRST OF ALL CONGATS ON YOUR PURCHASE AND THE FACT THAT YOU CAN STILL RIDE THIS TIME OF YEAR.IT IS GOING TO TAKE SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES TO BREAK YOUR BIKE IN , MINE WAS 600.ALSO YOU HAVE THE FUEL INJECTION I THINK.MOST OF THE CARBURATED BIKES WILL GET 40+ MILES PER GALLON AFTER BREAK IN.THIS ALSO HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH YOUR DRIVING HABBITS. GET SOME MORE MILES ON YOUR RIDE AND THEN GIVE IT A CHECK. SPUDWRENCH,OUT

my 1999 Silverado 1600 gets about 40-45 MPG sometimes closer to 50 depending on the roads I'm on, and she has about 16,000 miles. I usually go about 150 miles before refueling. Need a break about then anyways. Only had the fuel light come on a few times. I'm never lost if I have fuel!!!! VROOM VROOM

I average 46mpg with my `06 Roadstar. You'll find it WILL get better gas milage once you get her broken in. A lot will depend on how you run it also.... If I run mine hard, she'll drink like a fish ( gotta feed those horses.... ). I've gotten a high of 53 and a low of 36mpg....

Sounds good. I guesstimated what I have used since fill up for the mileage I have put on since fill up, based on what I think I remember the gals I put in, and I figured it up to around 25 to 28 MPG. Again this is not precise because I am going by memory on the fuel put in and guessing the amount used so far based on the gauge, but it should be in the ballpark. Will break in really make a difference of 15 MPG?
