I have a 2005 R* 1700. 8,000 miles currently. I usually get anywhere from 155 - 175 miles before reserve light comes on. Best I have gotten is 53 mpg but average is more around 40-45 for normal weekend outings with in town normal traffic mpg of around 38 - 40.

2007 daily commute totally box stock bike. Mixed driving both surface streets & hiway avg 46 on regular gas. Note: bike feels lean and need alot of choke for a few miles.

Re:Fuel Mileage 3 Years, 1 Month ago
Thanks for all the replies. I did a search on here and found tons of pages of threads on this and related topics. All I did find were for carbed. I don't know how accurate that would translate for my fuel injected. Anyway, I will keep an eye on it as I put mileage on it and post results on this thread if I get a significant difference. Maybe we could make this the official fuel injected R* mileage test during break in and beyond thread. Never know, it could help out some folks in the future if they have similar issues with new R*'s. I will keep track of mileage and MPG. In the meantime, keep posting any comments or ideas on this topic. Thanks to all.

FIRST OF ALL CONGATS ON YOUR PURCHASE AND THE FACT THAT YOU CAN STILL RIDE THIS TIME OF YEAR.IT IS GOING TO TAKE SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES TO BREAK YOUR BIKE IN , MINE WAS 600.ALSO YOU HAVE THE FUEL INJECTION I THINK.MOST OF THE CARBURATED BIKES WILL GET 40+ MILES PER GALLON AFTER BREAK IN.THIS ALSO HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH YOUR DRIVING HABBITS. GET SOME MORE MILES ON YOUR RIDE AND THEN GIVE IT A CHECK. SPUDWRENCH,OUT

Thanks and it was cold yesterday, about 34, but I had to ride.

When new, the engine is tight and fuel efficiency isn't all that great. Once broken in, I started getting about 42 mpg. Now, in the winter, I probably only get 35 to 37 mpg. So if your '08 runs anything like mine, then you're being nailed on two front: new, tight engine and winter running. And I might add that I am a very conservative rider.
