Yeah, but you know, I think we're all running gas with 10% Ethanol now aren't we? I am here in MA, and I'm getting the 43 to 49 mpg on it.

Oh, and yes on the FI... that should improve mileage, as it's much more precise than a carb.

Yeah , I would think FI would be better. I am not very happy with the bums rush I got at my dealership. Particularly because it seemed the mechanic was more concerned with working on his personal bike than trying to come up with some educated answers for me. He said "Some get more, some don't". Does he seriously think I am an idiot? He doesn't know that I am a mechanic by trade and I know how machines are suppose to work. I guess he thought I was one of those that knows nothing about technical stuff. I plan to ride as much as I can and keep detailed records of mileage with gas receipts. I will post updates as I go.

I was consistently getting 36 to 38 MPGs for months on my '01 R*. Some of my buddies are getting 45 - 50. I couldn't understand what the problem was since the bike was running great, there was no exhaust smoke and the plugs looked good.

Then my son-in-law came to visit and we went on a Sunday ride with a local club. I rode my Harley with the grandkid and my son-in-law rode the R*. We filled up after about 130 miles and he got 50 MPG. His reasoning was I just liked to gas it to hear the pipes. I hate to admit it but I think he is right. The way you ride REALLY makes a difference.

33 is low regardless of how you ride. I would get 42 - 45 on my road star in mixed conditions. Up to 50 on highways running the speed limit. My Ultra gets about the same.

Wow, no kidding? That is a huge difference. I have cracked my whip a few times but I mainly ride pretty easy because it is not broke in.

UPDATE: Alright, I just put in my 4th tank of gas. This is my first tank to start keeping detailed info. As I continue to document my mileage, I will also edit my first post in this thread with the new data so that it can more easily be compared. Here we go.

Mileage driven = 111.0.
Fuel added = 3.771
Mileage = 29.435
Driving Type = Mixed - Cruising with many full throttle applications and 2 short high speed runs of 100 and 110 MPH.

Running that rich may be where you are getting that extra speed. Trade offs for everything. speed and power = less mileage.

That may be it. This is just the beginning. I plan on documenting mileage at every fill up for a while under different driving conditions to see how it affects mileage and posting the results here in this thread. Kind of like a road test of sorts. I will also edit the first post in this thread with the info so it will all be in one place to better compare it all. Stay tuned, this will be fun and informative. Did I mention, this is for the fuel injected?
