Need advice on idle/rpm 3 Years, 4 Months ago
When my bike is warm and idling, and then I "blip" the throttle, it's taking like 3-4 seconds for the motor to bring itself back down to idle again. Seems a lot longer than normal, or what it used to be, around 1-2 seconds or so. I did recently raise the idle overall a little with the knob, but I don't think that should cause the motor to take longer to bring itself back down to the set idle rpm.

Anyone know what might be happening? Isn't there a spring or something that is supposed to quicken this action? (please forgive my lack of motor-tech knowledge).

Thanks,
:-DD.

Could be the cables need to be lubed. The vacuum slide might have carbon build up on the back side and is sticking a little. Couple things to check anywho.

OK how do I get to the "vacuum slide"?? Is this gonna require a lot of pulling things apart to get to?

My bike's only got a little over 2000 miles, so I don't think there's a lot of build up... at least that's my assumption.

You have to take the top of the carb off.

When I raised my idle I had the same problem. My bike is only 8 months old so I don't think it's the cables. Try lowering your idle and see if it still does it. Hope this helps.

Yeah, I suppose it makes the most sense, at least at first, that if you did something related to the issue at about the very same time that issue arose... the first course of action would be to at least undo what you did and see if your prior adjustment may have been responsible for it.

A slight air leak on the manifold will cause the idle to do that as well...I noticed mine doing that at red lights it would be idling high when I first stopped and after several seconds it would settle to normal....Coug

Assuming everything is working as it should and your idle is at about 900 rpm, the symptoms you describe (hanging on a blip) is a sign that the mixture is too lean.

As cougar suggested ... first check for intake leaks ..... check carefully as they are seaky.

If no leak then turn the PMS out 1/4 turn until it disappears.
