Beefcake2play--
How does that 31 tooth pulley affect your mileage? Any chance you had it on the bike before the big bore kit? I was just wondering about the effects of going from the 32 stock pulley to the 31, aside from the obvious one--getting from stoplight to stoplight quicker.
Anyone else with the 31-tooth pulley is more than welcome to answer as well, and TIA (thanks in advance)!

PS - If anyone is offended by the subject line of this post...tough. I lived 2 years in MS in a town of less than 5K people, so I speak from first-hand knowledge. Nice people, bit not a lot to do, and not much in the conversation department, unless the topic was Moon Pies, RC Cola and a fish fry!

Lower gearing equals higher rpm for the same MPH as lower gearing. Higher RPM equals more gas equals lower MPG. But if you want a faster hole shot are you really concerned about MPG?
Did you know they invented the tooth brush in Mississippi? If they had invented it anywhere else it would have been the teeth brush.

I hear ya and realized all that, but I was looking for a balance, so I'm after numbers more than anything else. I know every bike is different, but I just wanted to establish a baseline and get some sort of idea. Is the difference 1 MPG or 5 MPG? I'm willing to give up an extra 5 miles traveling distance per tank for the extra OOMPH, but I don't know about 25 miles...

Hmmmm ...
Trying to go by memory here.
When I switched from the 33 to 32, I lost about 10 miles per tank.

I was thinking the stock pully was 33 teeth. Baron makes both a 32 and a 31. I also have been thinking about going with a smaller front pully and was kinda woundering about the rpm's on the interstate and not so much the gas.

Hey wendle
The stock pulley on the 1600's is a 33. On the 1700's it's a 32. Anything you gain on the bottom end you will lose on the top end (Sorta, kinda). If you do mostly open road riding I would leave it stock. If you want more giddey up from a start then go smaller. My 1.352 cents anywho.

I did as a matter of fact have the 31 tooth pulley before the big bore installation. My mileage dropped about 4mpg. not too bad, but the extra "OOMPH" was really worth the drop in mileage.

Wendle....about your question about highway rpm's. nothing to worry about. THat 5th gear is just fine at 75mph and up. Trust me, I went on a trip to the Dakotas last summer, and cruising down I-90 at 80mph was nothing for the bike. Hope this helps you out a little.

thanks for the info I didn't know they changed the pulley on the 04 and up RS. I don't do that much open road riding but do plan on making a few trips this year.
I bet I can wear a rear tire out a lot faster with a 31 tooth pully
