8+ over stock should work fine for 14's... I have 16's with 10+ cables...

Normally, with ape hangers, the rule of thumb is.... 12"=6+... 14"=8+... 16"=10+ and so on

I put 4 inch risers with a 2 pull back on my bike years ago. I'm thinking of going to apes but leaving the risers on. What do you all think; 12's or 14's? My cables are about too tight now so I know I'll need a whole new set. Any additonal ideas or suggestions would be welcome.

I put Barons Kong Bars on my 05 R*, which are 17" rise with the stock risers and my grips are just above my shoulders. Its a good feel...

My honest opinion (and these like are like noses, everybody has one) is to go back to your stock height risers and get the height apes you want... for a couple of reasons... first and best... they look a heck of a lot better! two, you can buy apes in just about any size and shape with the pullback and width you want or desire... The more fancy ones, of course, cost a crap load more! The height of apes that you want depends on you... put your arms out to where you want them to be and have a friend measure from the bottom of your existing bars to where ever your hands are and there ya go...

Hope this helps....
