OK. Yeah, they aren't on right now.

Maybe not very scientific but I haven't had anyone reach up to mess with their rearview mirror or give me the one finger salute when I'm behind them so I don't think that's an issue. And the lights don't seem to be pointing that high. As for on / off for passing. I don't know if 95% of the drivers on the road know what the blinking lights are about. The charging system could be a problem but I don't do a lot of city stop and go riding. Other than that I agree with you 100%

OK. I'm thinking again so be careful folks

The kill switch. Anyone really use it (on purpose)? It's already there. Unhook it from the kill and hook it up to the passing lamps.

Or. Instead of rocking a switch how about a temporary contact switch (like a horn button) hooked up to a turn signal flasher. Hold the button down and the lights blink. Let go and they stop.

Alright, shoot me down

GEEZ POP how much typing you doing there. Taking a long time. My ideas weren't that bad.

Post edited by: Musky, at: 2007/02/02 19:48

To be serious I like the switch at the end of my thumb along side the other lighting and noise device controls on the left switch cluster horn, signal,hi/lo beam leaving my right hand to deal with ignition and engine control switches/devices.. start/kill/throttle

I would probably lay the bike down and instead of killin the engine Id be flashin my passin lamps

But since yer in the thinkin mode...

I dont like searchin the instrument panel to see if my signal lights are on during the day and would like an idea on how to visually see whether they are on -noise clickers are out
The signal indicator doesnt tell me whether left or right is flashin

like indicator bulb or hole or something maybe on the back of the front signal lights like the fender indictors on the old cadillacs etc

Or wire something... some where..by accessing the signal wires

Post edited by: Pop Rivet, at: 2007/02/03 02:01

2 small LED's. Mounted on the inside (facing you) of the windshield. One on each side mounted behind the chrome so nothing shows from the front. You would have to drill 2 small holes in the shield to run the wires through. Run the wires behind the Silvberado chrome down to the lightbar. Then hook them up to the turnsignals. With a quick disconnect for when you want to take the shield off. Might have to alter the plan once you look at the shield since I'm working from memory here. Mines still under the little red hiding hood.

Excellent idea thanks

Also I was considering drilling weeping holes in the bottom of the turn signals and at the same time a hole in the back of the front turn signal where I could simply insert a clear plastic light bulb like the ones on those little ceramic christmas trees

A tight fit and a little Seal- All glue

It would be right behind Yammi's version of an 1157 amber bulb and should be quite visible

Thought about the bulb in the signal housing but with my luck I'd just create a leak and with the lights on the shield they would be up higher more in the line of vision.

You need to get a set of the car / truck mirrors that have the signal arrow in them and adapt them to work on the bike. Now there's an idea uh. A little big and pretty ugly but you would also have power adjust.

Pop,

I tried every option I could think of to get it by my thumb. It's just too bulky to fit anywhere. I even considered cutting it down and mounting it under the sigals like yours but that would have affected the screws that hold the two halves together. Before I found this one, I had a black plastic ATV handlebar switch mounted in the same place, so I am used to the location. It just looks a whole bunch better, that's all.

Musky--

I took your idea and ran with it...hopefully I won't screw it up!

I just picked this up on eBay for $26...now I SHOULD be able to control two sets of lights with one switch--the passing lamps AND the LEDs I hope to install...some day...

Gonna see how well it will fit on the left hand side.
