Re:Fuel Mileage 3 Years ago
Mine is not Fuel injected but I've always been amazed at the difference in mileage based on driving..The road* creates such high Torque at such low rpm I tend to shift at higher than needed rpm..I can add 33% to my trip by shifting and driving like a human..
I don't think the comment( who cares) was meant to be dissrespectful..Maybe he meant the roady and biking is so awesome he dosen't care about mileage?

But thanks for the info I am rethinking fuel injection ..and of course there is something in the tank to cause to to hold less fuel as well.

I have gotten as bad as 33 mpg as a good as 53 mpg. Yesterday rode 212 miles and got 50 mpg. It was cool in Orlando (38 when we left 56 when we got back and overcast most of the day. One stop and all open road not stop and go with 10% ethenol. The HD guys got 44.

Yeah, the fuel pump is mounted in the bottom of the tank. Book says fuel tank capacity is 4.76, .9 of which is reserve. As far as the comments made, it's no big deal, I just wanted to make my position known on why I am doing this "Fuel Data" thread.

New Data 03/20/2009: See post number one for Data entry #6. It is interesting to see that one full throttle application to 115 MPH over the course of a tank of gas decreased my mileage by 2.6638 MPG. It doesn't take much, huh?

ethenol does make a difference--my car gets less MPG with that 10% ethenol fuel. But I still get about 40-45 MPG in my Roadie--and I ride her hard--mostly back roads-I just love curves on the road and on the women wooohoooo-and I hit the rev limiter a few times each ride, kinda like my top end carbon cleaner. These girls love to be riden hard, they may make some noise, just like the human version, but they love it. 1999 Silverado with 16000 miles and I love it. I'm gonna have to ride with Sobacracker--he's in my neighborhood, but haven't met him yet--want to--warmer weather is comming. VROOM VROOM Ronnie in MD

Just posted fuel mileage check #8 in the first post of this thread. It will be my last entry and I am sure you are all glad of that. Anyway, I had my best mileage yet at 42 MPG.

I have an 05 R* with Hardkrome K2's. The dealer jetted it and the best I have ever gotten for mileage is 42. Most of the time I get in the mid 30's. My dealer says that is normal and I am lucke if I get in the 40's. Sounds like I could do better just not sue how to do it. I ride pretty conservative and log alot of highway miles. 200 today and averaged 36.5 traveling at 60 mph. I have a 6000 mile trip planned to the west coast this summer so an additional 5 mpg is about $50 or another 6 tanks of fuel. Any ideas how I can join the 50 mpg club?

If your air box is still stock the jetting shouldn't have been touched. I'm guessing the dealer has you jetted too rich. Very common.

Find out what your jet settings are. Go back to stock jetting. Or go to a more open air kit.

I'm not sure why dealers set them up too rich, but I suspect they have done it again.
