Just an Idea 5 Years, 3 Months ago

Would it be possible to have a clinic get together? Maybe pick a place as centrally located as possible (if that's possible), and have a get together. I know the logistics of it would be tough, but it would be a nice ride, put some faces to some names, big BBQ in a park, pick up other riders on the way, etc. I'm anxious to take a good ride this summer.

I think you'll find Minnesota is pretty much right in the middle
And what's up with your pic? Or is it just on my end? I can only see the top 1/2 inch.

Post edited by: Musky, at: 2007/02/08 09:48

Nice idea but I think it would be tough.
Let's see Gram's in CA and 04roadrider's in Maine .... half way would be about .... Hopkins.
I do travel so I try and meet folks when I can. Anyone in UK and Germany in March?

Gotta be on your end MUSKY. Looks good here.
Doc, didn't say It would be easy, just fun. The destination is secondary to the ride.

The Clinic has promoted/sponsored two get togethers, both of which were very successful.
Since both were in southern California, this might be nothing more than a reflection of our readers in that area.
Since the overwhelming majority of our visitors never log in or create accounts here, it is a little difficult to gauge response in advance.
I would suggest taking a regional approach, announcing a date and time, inviting a few friends to come along, and then see what happens. If its just you and your friends, no loss you got a nice ride out of the deal. But you might be suprised and find a few folks have come out to join you.
The two we promoted were a Meet and Greet for the owner of Looney's Custom Seats (Ray), and a garage day also sponsored by Baron's Custom Accessories. We filled the parking lot of a local burger joint with stars for the meet and greet, and really blew out the garage day (although Baron's was also promoting it).
If you announce a proposed get together, we will put something on the front page for the week or two preceeding it. That way folks who don't check the forum everyday will see it. If you want to include some rsvp capability, we might be able to help on that too. I will just need to have an official contact for the gathering.

Sounds like an excellent idea, but since retiring from the AF, my travelling is pretty limited. As for trying to get people from all around to meet in a centralized area, the analogy of "like trying to herd cats" comes to mind.

Minnesota is in the middle of what? Politics....no slightly left of center me thinks. Religion... no too many Lutherans and not enough Southern Baptists. Bar B Que no too long a winter. The sun worshipers of America no... maybe the highest concentration of white legs in shorts though. Fishing hmmm land of 10,000 lakes might be. Musky are ya named after a fish or do you have a strong odor?
Truth is a location that has scenic areas for rides would work best. Like Northern Colorado or Vermont or Utah or New Mexico or Arizona or Wyoming. Maybe several regional sites as I'm sure other parts of the country have areas with some interesting topography, well maybe not Kansas. Did some riding in Minnesota and it was pretty farmland but that's 13 plus hours of hard riding one way. My arse would not like that.

Yeah those places are all just a few miles from Minnesota and I wouldn't get a sore arse at all.

My Roadie start misfiring when it approaches the Mason-Dixon line. Sounds like a great idea unfortunately our country (and Canada) are so vast it makes such an endeavor pretty hard to pull off.
