DYNO done - what does this do for me? 3 Years, 2 Months ago
Hello there,
I recently put VH pipes on my 06 RS and then yesterday I had a Yamaha service shop install a Kuryakyn Pro-R Hypercharger and rejet the carbs. I'm always leary about getting work done. It was a 4 hour job. At 1.5 hours I noticed the bike hadn't gone in yet. I guess it went in around at the 2 hour mark. I waited the duration. As it was approaching the 4 hour mark I asked how it was going. They told me that the tech was still working on it and he should be done within one more hour, then it would go in for DYNO and depending on how that worked out maybe another 30 minutes to adjust the carb. They also told me they had to print out the instructions. Guess they never installed this before. I went outside to wait and about 20 mins later they came out and said it was done. Just makes me wonder how they got it all done and in the DYNO during that 20 mins. I wonder if the DYNO was even done. I was excited to get back on the bike and ride it with the new accessory. I noticed the ride home and today on a ride that I am still popping on decel. I thought the carb adjustment and DYNO would help that. Am I wrong? On another note, I noticed that there was a new, slight scratch on my tank and on top of the new Hypercharger, and the bike was filthy. grease rubbed everywhere. This is a Yamaha service place that has the 5 Star whatever they call it so I thought I was in good hands. I didn't want to say anything to the shop yet because I'm new to this and maybe that's just the way it is. Any thoughts on the DYNO and the popping and if I should bring it back? Thanks.

Those of us that work on our own bikes should feel lucky. Good techs are very few and far between and concientious techs are even more rare. (those that give a bike back to you looking as good or better than when they got their hands on it)
That said, the popping is probably one of the pipes not sealing good or they jetted lean.
And if they dyno'ed it then they should have a printout to show you.

Did you get a results sheet, chart or something from the dyno work?

When a dyno run is made they should give you a graph that shows the results. If adjustments were done and it was rerun on the dyno then you should get a second graph or a double graph showing both runs on one graph. That way you can see the results of the adjustments.

If they have a dyno and use it you should know from the noise, because they run the RPM up to the red line in every gear! The graph you get shows Horsepower, torque, and mixture changes as they go through the power range.

Thanks. I just called them and they said the printer was broken yesterday but it should be in a file and they can change the cartridge etc....I told the guy of all my concerns and he said he would be upset too if his bike was returned like that. He said to bring it back up so I'm gonna do that. Hopefully they'll do the dyno and adjust as necessary.

I was sitting about 20 yards from the dyno box and I don't recall hearing anything. Anything could have happened but like I said I'm not trusting unless I see what's happening or you earn my trust first. This was my first visit and probably my last.

By the way it was $400 to install the hypercharger, reject, and dyno.

You should have been able to hear that dyno run from across the street! i would also have a hard time believing the "no ink cartridge" story.

I could be wrong.............I would have freaked when I saw the scratch though
