Yesterday, I purchased HD lowers. I was trying to figure out how to install them and it looks like the top hole will align with the the top windshield mount hole and the bottom with one of the yami lower mount holes. I will have to get some major (thick) spacers due to the curvature of the yami windshield bracket and I will have to drill a hole where the other windshield hole is. Looks like I will also have to get longer windshield mounting screws. Does this sound right or is there a better (different) way? |

Already a thread on this, do a search, you need some spacers , longer bolts, Rubber washers and on my 07 I had to drill nothing.

yeah I did that, but it looks like there is more than one method to do this and I'm a bit confused
Method 1. Use a saw and cut the HD lower at the top and drill a hole for the other lower hole on the silverado bracket. Think Javawave did this.
Method 2. Like I said, get some spacers for the top windshield hole which almost perfectly lines up. This would require no extra drilling or sawing, but would require thick spacers and a longer top windshield screw for the top windshield hole.
These sound right?

It can't be more simple. I went to go get the parts and by time I got back my Girlfriend had it all done.
One hole does not line up perfect, You use a washer to make it better and it's been tested from 9 degrees to over 100 and from sitting idle to over 100 MPH over last 6 months, Rain, snow, sleet, hail. No drilling.
Maybe you have a different set up and I can't help you or Different lowers, i got my part Number from RSC thread though.

If I had it to do over again i would do it like MS1700 did. Cutting them made for imo a little cleaner look, but you will find with the closeness of the two holes you drill that the vibration can create some cracking. The longer mounting using the spacer is probably the way to go.

I got brass spacers as they didn't have chrome. Didn't think about nylon. anyway, I read about the rubber washers. I have it setup pretty much like in your picture, but I have them on backwards... eeks.... left on right, right on left. The tilt on the sides should face out not in. Anyway, I guess I'll switch them (don't know if it matters).
I'm going to put blue loctite on both of those bolts, especially the top as it appears to be not as I want to make sure those don't back out especially the top as its not that great of a hold. I added extra rubber washers at the top on each side of the spacer. I hate using the red unless I never want to take off as its a SOB to get off.
