It was near freezing today, but I just had to..you know...make sure that the bike was still sound...and do some...ah..testing. You know, nice long ride to make sure the paint didn't flake off or loose anything. Had to...and Loved it!!!!

Thanks Chico but honestly, you could do it. If I can, anyone can!!! Get yourself a small air compressor and a gravity fed paint gun, some cheap paint and practice on some cardbord or scraps. Its really is alot of fun. I've never worked in a body shop and never had anyone around that painted or taught me. I just decided to give it a try and enjoyed it. Kinda like tinkering with the bikes. You know what I mean? It gets really fun when you get a pen and paper and start drawing out flames or tribals or scallops, then masking the paint and painting with a different color. WAY FUN and COOL. I remember I had an old Harley that over the weekend I painted black (cost around $25) and paintstriped some mutli-colored flames all over it. Then I went to the local watering hole the next weekend and a bunch of bikers were there. I park next to a guy that also had flames on his bike. He looks and mine and askes "Who did your paint" I said "I did, who did yours" he says "Mike did mine, cost me 2K. Hey, you do good work, will you paint my wife's bike?" I just said "No, I'm not that good." But honestly, his 2K paint job was worse than mine but I didn't have the heart to tell him. Give it a go Chico!!! Make 'em talk!

I kinda thought you had some artistic talent. No offense, but I haven't met a man called Chico that didn't I don't have an artistic bone in my body, but if ya keep practicing, even I can get sorta good. If ya have the compressor, then thats the big money item out of the way. You just need to go buy a $20-30 gun. I would recommend a gravity feed gun because it only requires around 8 psi. Gravity does the rest and can really stretch your paint more than the sifen fed guns. I've painted with both an prefer the gavity gun. I just got my new one for this job from Big Lots for $30. If you buy some standard color like a black single-stage acylic, you shoud be able to buy enought paint for two bikes (one quart including reducer and hardner) for around $70. Tell your paint supplier that you are new, and he can give you instructions on mixing and guning. Belive me, rattle can paint has NOTHING on a good GUN! You cannot compare. Have fun!!!!!

I thought I was done with this thread, but I wanted to make one last 'should have told you so' comment for archive purposes. I LOVE my fairing and thanks so much to this site for making it happen. I was very concerned with the initial build on this (see first post) about making the fairing detachable and making the other parts (bags, tourpak etc) detachable. I entitely missed the point of the other members here about how nice it is to have the fairing. Since I have mounted the fairing, bags, etc. I have yet to remove them. I ride the bike every day, and am continually amazed at how much wind the fairing keeps off me. I have grown accustomed to it that much that I shudder at the thought of removing it. If I could do it again, I would have permanantly mounted it and put guages in the 4 inch holes where the speakers are now, plus a few other things. WARNING to those thinking about a fairing...prepare to leave it on all the time. Once dressed its hard to go back to being naked!!!!

Go to summit and they have all the gauges you could want. I have volt, tach, fuel mix, and mechanical oil pressure. If you want a 2n fitting let me know I'll hook you up. Funny how things work out at least you can strip her when she gets a shower.
