WHAT, only twenty post on something as important as oil? Well then , I guess I'll have to go with my first thought on oil : Quaker State!

Please don't comment on how stupid I am as that was just a joke.

Post edited by: Big Bear, at: 2007/02/10 23:50

QUAKER STATE?! Don't even think of using THAT crap!
(Amsoil "for aircooled V-twins" is the best for bikes!)

Don't worry as I was joking. Wouldn't even put the stuff in my lawnmower(and it uses oil.)

I used Shell Rotella T 15W40 Petroleum Oil when I did the 600-mile oil change on my 2006 Road* last Fall.

I plan on switching over to Shell Rotella T 5W40 Synthetic Oil next Fall.

It's good, it's inexpensive and it's readily available.

Here's a great web-site that may help you make up your mind:

Good luck.

Big Bear, I had to laugh out loud when I read your comment about using Quaker State ... cause I knew you were joking

My dad used to use Quaker State when I was a kid, so when I started driving, I used it in my 69 Rambler. I was scratching my head every time I changed the oil because big clumps of goop would come out with the oil, and it turned black after only 1000 or so miles Then after reading lots of oil bottle lables, I switched to Castrol, and never looked back because its been really good to me in my 4 wheeled vehicles.

I'm interested in the oil debate here because I want to switch to something heavier than Yamalube for my next oil change. Right now it looks like its going to be either the Mobil 1 Vtwin, or Rotella T 5W50

Happy Feburary to all!

If I remember correctly from what I was told as a youngster (many moons ago), Pennsylvania produced oils (Quaker Stater, Pennzoil, etc.) have a higher parafin content then oils from other places. Could contribute to the "clumps of goop". Don't know if that's true but it's something that stuck with me for some odd reason.

Bought my 2000 Freightliner new, nothing but rottella in it since first change. I just turned 1 million miles in it. only lost a turbo, but thats normal wear. Just put a set of injectors in it and my wrench said everything looks good up top. Only thing wore out is me...ready for an overhaul. I didnt know that some people ran it in v twins... interesting.
