All of you with ROADHOUSE DOOLEYS out there... 3 Years, 2 Months ago
I'm interested in making my Dooleys a bit louder. I've heard that the baffles are NOT easily removed in these pipes (haven't tried). Anyone have experience removing the baffles and/or replacing the baffles, as well as a tip to how hard or easy it is to do so?

Thanks,
:-DD.

I just pulled and repacked my baffles last week. They weren't all that hard to get out. You need to remove the two screws on the underside, slip off the tip and then grab the baffle with a pair of vice grips and give 'er a yank or two. They'll come out will a little persuasion. Getting them back in and aligning the holes was more of a hassle than getting them out.

Now as far as running without the baffles goes: JUST SAY NO. I fired up my ride without the baffles just so I would know how it sounded. It's so freaking loud I couldn't take much more than a few min. of it and that was with the bike sitting just inside the garage, but with the tail end pointing out into the driveway.

If you want a citation for a noise ordinance, pulling the baffles and running without them will for sure get it for you. And if you were my neighbor and you ran your bike like that, I'd be calling the law on you regardless of the time of day.

I did take some video but I doubt the sheer ear pounding enormity of the sound volume will come through on playback. As soon as I upload I'll post a link.

They say "If it's too loud, you're too old". Well, I guess I'm too old!

Thanks M7... I'm just looking to get them a LITTLE louder. I don't plan on running without baffles - you've scared me out of the thought. What did it do for the sound of your baffles by repacking them? Is there a way to lessen the effect of the baffles by repacking them a certain way?
Thanks, ahead of time, for posting a video of what you're talking about.

I think I saw your video on YouTube. Must have been you. They didn't sound that loud to me, but I'm half deaf too. I know a video and real life are two different things too.

This worked for my Roadhouse 2-1 so should work the same for the duallys.

After removing the baffle and trash the old packing, wrap the serrated part of the baffle with some sheet metal and attach some clamps holding it in place. Repack, reinstall and fire up. Should be a tad louder. At least to my ears it is.

I have have roadhouse 2 into 1s for a few years and they just naturally get louder over time. So one option is to just keep riding and wait.

Ha! Sounds like that's the safest route for me. Thanks Blackhorse, and all you others for your input.

Yeah that's my video - and let me just say that the camera I used to take the video didn't pick up CRAP as far as the audio... the pipes are actually fairly loud (well, at least a deep rumble at idle and a nice blat-blat on throttle).
