Hello All,
This is my first time using a bike forum web site so please be patient with me. Anyway, I am on my third bike - my first yamaha. I currently have the 2004 Road Star - the white one. I am currently thinking of adding steel braided cable lines for the clutch, throttle and brake as well as putting the chrome highlights (3 of them) on the fenders and finally adding chrome grips. Do the chrome grips affect your grip or is it similar to the stock grip, but with a cosmetic value? Any feedback, suggestions or thoughts about those accessories would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any and all input. We will be talking with you in the near future. Have a good one.

Thanks
Jim

Well, Well, Welcome to another White Roadie. Err, I mean welcome to the the clinic Hat.

I've never had metal grips but I'm thinking they would get pretty uncomfortable after a while. Are the 3 "highlights" to the fender the fender rail and the front and back tips? If they are you should also go for the tip for the rear fender. Kinda balance it out.

Hey Musky,
Thanks for the welcome and for your input. As for the chrome highlights, actually I think they are called chrome fender tips, yes I am thinking of getting all 3 - 2 for the front - not the rail though and the one for the rear - I agree with you that it gives it a more complete look. By the way, how did you get the picture of your bike on the forum page? I have an apple lap top and use the i photo program - I was going to experiment with the old cut and paste method - is there a better way? I am not very computer literate. Thanks. Did the picture of the bike come out? I found the choose file link at the bottom of the page.

I'm running pro-one grips which are Chromed and rubber railed. Love the look, biggest complaint, they're very cold on cold mornings.

Completely chrome grips look cool (I really like the look) but for day to day riding there are not practical (a bit buzzier than rubber grips) and I find that they are not suitable for cold weather riding.

Go for the rubber/chrome combo like KuryAkyn.

I just added the Kuryakan ISO grips and really like them. I have a good friend that has the chrome flame grips here in Florida and he likes them. No comfort problems. I personnaly would go with rubber and chrome for comfort, grip and control, but like so many things on a scooter it is all personal preference.

Welcome to the site, you will find it great in here.

Hey Hat,
I had some chrome & rubber KuryAkyn grips on my last bike and loved them. On my new second hand R* I have the standard ones, boring. I just come back from a ride with my mate and he had some new flamed chrome/rubber KuryAkyn grips on his bike and I had a ride and I realised how much I miss the thicker feeling KuryAkyn grips.

Welcome, Hat! A 2004 white Roadie...sounds familiar! You're gonna keep Musky busy with his count...

When I got mine, it had the Yamaha Chrome & rubber grips on it (below):

I just switched bars and now have the Kuryakyn ISO grips...very substantial feel, but I have nothing bad to say about the Yamaha ones, either. I just wanted to try something different. All part of being afflicted with CTS (Constant Tinker Sydnrome) as so many Road Star owners are...

Again, welcome and enjoy!
