Man trying to find Mobil 1 VTwin 20W50 oils and K@N oil filter at any place other than a bike shop is next to imposable around here. Guess I am going to have to go to a bike shop after all. There goes the price!

You really don't need to get the V Twin specific Mobil 1, I use the 15W50 (Gold Cap). Other than being 15W50 vs 20W50 it's the same. You can pick it up in gallon jugs or quarts at WalMart. However, if you want to spend extra $ for the V Twin designation be my guest.

OH what you said!! The gold cap might not have the Ju Ju Bee ratings needed for our wet clutch. The thing will fall apart in 5 miles.

Dam it I tell myself to stay out of these things. But do i listen? Nooooo.

Doesn't have the bad stuff that will make the clutch slip though, I find that more important.

Curt-

Just out of curiosity, what did it cost you to get your Roadie run on the Dyno?

Thanks,

RK

If it doesnt have the Jaso MA rating then it in all likley hood it has the friction modifiers to compensate for the lower zinc levels that has to be lowered... to be used in cars with catalytic converters or it cant be certified for auto use...this may not be stated on the bottle ie "energy conserving"

Quote "Over the years, automotive manufacturers have requested oil manufacturers to reduce zinc, phosphorus (an essential element in ZDDP, Zinc Diethyl Dithiophosphate) and other extreme pressure additives from the oil. The primary reason is that automotive manufacturers have requested is that they are extending emissions systems warranties to periods of 10 years/150,000 miles and they claim that high concentrations of these chemical additives were contaminating their catalytic converters and negatively affecting emission levels required to meet their 10 yea/150,000 mile warranty requirements. There are also a few motorcycles on the market that have catalytic converters, however they are not subject to the same 10-year requirements as the automotive industry for emissions levels."

DONT forget that our transmission GEARS are NOT separate from the engine oil and need these "extreme pressure additives " to avoid premature wear which causes circlip failure and possible wheel lockup

Again your choice....probably the Roadie would last longer than 5 miles on Olive oil...

And bikes having over 100,000 miles with a badly machined gear had no tranny problems but still were recalled

Post edited by: Pop Rivet, at: 2007/02/18 03:30

Gold Cap = No "Energy Conserving" labeling nor any of the evil initials.

Side note: I've been driving cars for 33 years, haven't seen one yet made to run on 15W50 oil.

Keep buying the V Twin specific oils, PT Barnum gets proven right every day and big business thrives on it.
