Adding another bike ??? 3 Years, 2 Months ago
I will never consider getting rid of my 01 RS cuz it's gorgeous, Pepple Stone Sand paint color, which is the only year it came out with. Less than 25.K, and it came with lots of add ons, however I did solo her up and took the bags off.

I find myself glued to this forum, Craigs List & Cycle trade. I saw Frank mentioned a ST, however Sport Touring does not work for me, if I have to add bar risers I should not get it, not at 50 years of age and my back. I owned a Concours once.

In ya'lls opinion is a 20 year old Wing, Venture to old? I want more..is that weird? a Guy Thing etc? Is it sane thinking that if you have two bikes you would not put as mileage on either one?

All a matter of what you are looking for. Nothing wrong with two bikes. A 20 year wing would probably be a project to keep it going. No matter how well it has been maintained things wear out. that being said... how much do they want for it? might be a deal.

just remember---he who dies with the most toys wins--as long as playing or riding the toys gives you pleasure. Go for it--My bro-in-law----whom I bought my roadie from still has 3 more bikes, A BMW, A Yami Venture and a Honda Valkerie (6 cylinder), he built a 3 car garage to house them. Is also where I keep my roadie. And bythe way the Valkerie is for sale for about $6000, just west of Baltimore MD. VROOM VROOM

I started with an '06 Roadie and decided that I wanted it to be setup more for just me. I wanted something more comfortable for the wife and I on longer rides so I bought an '07 Venture. Man, I like that bike! Hate to admit it but I've been trying to sell the Roadie to buy a second (older) Venture to do a StarGlide conversion on.
The 2nd Generation Venture started in '99 and there has been NO changes since then other than color and you can find them around that year starting at $6000 and up. Super reliable and the power will surprise you. They like to rev so you learn to twist that throttle and downshift if you want to GO.
Then you have the group that loves the older Venture Royale 1st Gens. They look more like an older Wing and are "supposed" to be faster and just as reliable mechanically. They average around $3000.

Check out the VentureRiders forum for more info.

Yeah, the old Ventures were a cool alternative to the Gold Wings of the 1980's. The Venture had more cornering clearance and more power. The V4 they had was what Yamaha hopped up to create the original V-max. I've always thought it would be fun to get an old Venture and "V-max" it. Rebuild the motor to V-max specs (I believe the cams and pistons were different, and the V-boost system, which opens up a crossover between the front and rear carbs at around 6000 rpm) Man, you'd have one fast full dresser!

Yep..I am gonna look into an older Venture on the cheap. My RS is like my "hot-rod" and therapy on two (2) wheels. The 1600 cc engine is gorgeous..my Vance Long shots is music to my ears

Talking about music... If I hear "Cowgirls Don't Cry" from Brooks & Dunn one more time on the wolf I am GONNA SCREAM !!

I have had 2 GL1000 Goldwings.....78 and 79. Both were truly cool bikes. I cafe'd both of them. The 78 was an electrical nightmare , as some folks should never mess with bike (or cars for that matter). The 79 was no trouble at all. Owned both within the past 7 years. They were old. I don't sweat old , worry more about their maintenance, and mods. I've got one really cool pic of my 79 , but I was being a hooligan on it at the time , and it would make me loose some of my good guy cred if you saw it. You only live once , get yourself another old bike to enjoy. BB
