The Golden Rule works in business, provide that level of service you would want to receive yourself, if you were the walk-in customer.

Then try to go beyond that... it takes so little more to be extra-ordinary!

I agree with RoadHawg . $20 extra for a tire you bring in is not that bad. I am sure you save way more than that by not paying the stealership's full retail price on the tire itself.

Thank you Road Star Clinic !!!! I was always mechanicly inclined but with your help I do my own service and avoid rude overpriced dealers..I installed my own new metzlers this winter and avoided sloppy workmanship and high prices....With the money I save I was able to add a ton of new chrome.. Thank you , Thank you, Thank you, ...There is nothing I will not attempt with your help.

P.S. Last time I paid for dealer service was an oil change and valve adjustment on a V-Star..Found out later the filter was not changed ( internal) nor was the valve adjustment done as they quietn down with new oil.....300.00.

A grand idea! Say when. I'm ready! This is the best part of the Clinic. Start of complaining & end up riding.

75 bucks is a little exorbitant to change a tire. Anyway, he ended up getting it done for $60 at another shop. All's well in the end, but I'm getting that jack before I need tires.

There is always two sides to every story. Kimberly tried everything to satisfy your brother. But he was hell bent on blasting the store on the internet. As he said, telling everybody, posting his story over the internet and to see the store go out of business was the only thing that would make him happy. We have spent a lot of hard work and money on making our store the best Yamaha dealership in North Carolina. And charging $20 extra to install his tire does not even pay the light bill for the day. We need to sell product at the store to stay in business. We have a lot of happy customers who enjoy having the store in town. I would like to take the time to thank everyone of our customers for their support.

P.S It was so nice to see some sun shine today after all the rain we have being having.

Thanks Again

This is a regular practice at most OE shops in the Atlanta area. I get it. They need sales to keep the doors open.

That being stated , since we now have both sides to this story , let's not turn this thread into an argument. The staff at the Clinic appreciates your consideration in this regard. BB

Re:Dealer rip off! 3 Years, 1 Month ago
I have recently been researching the purchase of a new rear tire for my bike. I have visited 3 different Yamaha Dealers and each had a differfent price for the installation of the tire. I priced out the Metz ME880 WWW. The dealers were all within $10 bucks for the price of the tire. One dealer would mount the tire for free if I just brought the tire / rim in, but wanted $70 if I brought the whole bike in. The second dealer only wanted $15 to install the tire if I brought the whoel bike in. The third dealer wanted $30 to mount the tire on the rim and $170 if I brought the whole bike in. I was surprised to see that much variance from dealer to dealer.
I can buy the tire for $60-$70 dollars cheaper on line but I think I am going to purchase from the dealer that only wants $15 to mount on the bike.

Not wanting to beat a dead horse, but just as an FYI, it's been standard business practice for more than 15 years or so in this area (metro St. Louis) that the dealerships (at least the ones I've contacted) won't even consider mounting a tire you didn't buy from them. And more recently (within the past 5 years or so) a lot of the independent shops have adopted this same practice. All of them claim it's a "liability issue". They say that if they didn't personally purchase the tire from the vendor they can't (and won't) guarantee it and won't take the risk (liability) of someone coming back to them, claiming it was a faulty installation, etc... in the event that something would go wrong with the tire. (I'm sure there's also the issue of them making a few bucks off the tire too.)

But on a side note, the last tire I bought (Dunlop Elite III), the independent shop got it cheaper than I could get it online.

In The Wind,
Aaron
