shipping a bike 3 Years, 1 Month ago
Has anyone ever shipped there bike across country?
I am planning a trip and would like to know the ups and downs that people have experienced by shipping there bike.
Has anyone sent dealer to dealer? Yellow freight? or used empty space on a moving truck?
My plan is to send it to West Coast, fly out and spend two weeks riding back to the East coast.

When I bought my bike i had it shipped from New Jersey to Idaho by JCMotors. The carrier did a great job, I tracked the bike the whole way online and it probably took about 12 days from me calling them, to having the bike in my driveway. They also took great care of the ride, only downside was that it cost $700 bucks. I wasn't too upset since I got such a great deal on the bike, but I sure couldn't afford to ship it often.

I bought my bike a few years back on www.cycletrader.com from a guy in North Carolina. I had it shipped up to Chicago. I used an outfit called "Hogs and Kisses". It was pretty cheap and it took about 5 days. I remember the cost was about $400. I had no problems with using this service.

I shipped my scoot from California coast to New Jersey coast last August. Cost $750. The guy did a good job, but you have to make sure that EVERY scratch and dent is documented before it ships and that the driver knows what he's getting. And that you have a copy of the pics when you receive the scoot.

The seller should monitor the loading of the scoot so the driver doesn't put tie downs across expensive chrome.

My scoot had a slightly bent chrome belt guard and a few nicks/scratches I didn't see cause I was so getting the scoot!

If you want to know who I used I'd have to find the paperwork. And, yes I'd use them again.
