Words of wisdom Flashback.

So, put your $550 in a term deposit and use it if/when the need arises....Or just go out and buy more bling

Well, I bought it but haven't had to use it. It's more of a peace of mind thing. I hadn't planned on doing much wrenching on it when I bought it, but the clinic kinda sorta helped me change my mind. Ah well.

With the price of replacement parts these days, it seemed like the right thing to do, so I paid extra to get the extended warranty. However, as suggested above, if you do not have a dealer that you trust or you plan to modify your bike, then I would probably save the money. It's a gamble either way....Yamaha is gambling the customer won't need to use it, and the customer is gambling that it will save them money at some point. It's basically an insurance policy.

I found a great way to get the price down on the warranty if you want it is to ask the dealer offering it "are you saying this motorcyle is prone to failures or in need of a lot of repairs and adjusments?" Of course they want you to think it is a very reliable bike so you really don't need a warranty. After they respond you can say for "$300 I could see it as a nice insurance policy, but if it is as reliable as you say I won't need it"

I do all my own wrenching and these Scoots if cared for properly, not too much oil, regular gas they will go as long as you want them to go. These engines are stout and a very reliable design. The rest of the scoot is solid and with good maintenance there should be no problem. If there were a defect it should show up in the first year assuming you ride it. I ride about 10K a year so it got a good shake down year one. NO ISSUES.

I didn't get the warranty. Only problem I had was with the stator a few years ago.

Met a guy at the star-b-q who had a 1999 R* with 250K miles on it and he claimed it was the original battery. He said its always on a tender when its not being ridden. I don't know if I believe that.

I read research on the whole extended warranty thing for anything at all... and it really is just another great profit idea for the manufacturers. They make a killing because it is rarely ever used, especially, of course, on good products. That came from Consumer Reports... they say to say, "Thanks, but No, thanks!"

I've always been handy with a wrench and I won't let them make those few extra hundred off of me.

I heard they were changing the Venture for 2010; maybe they'll do away with the 8-track tape player and at least give it fuel injection. It does by far have the best warranty out of the box than any other touring bike, even though it is antiquated:

HD Ultra Classic-2yrs
Honda Gold Wing-3yrs
Kawi Voyager-2yrs
Victory Vision-1yr
BMW 1200LT-3yrs
Star Venture-5yrs
