Re:is the extended waranty worth the money? 3 Years, 1 Month ago
My experience with the +4 year YES program has been less than enjoyable. I have a 2007 Road Star Midnight. Lifter failed within the base warranty period-repair completed within a week as I recall. Plug failed within the base warranty-repair completed in 2 hours and the dealer picked the bike up. Last October extended warranty services needed-some sort of vacuum leak which was diagnosed as a blown head, a week goes by, I call, the head parts are on order, call the next week, still waiting for one additional part. Got a call from the dealer the very next day and low and behold, not a blown head at all, but a 'ROTTED' AIS hose. So I'm getting this strange picture in my head about anyone who would order parts on a repair that they didn't even look at before they ordered the parts. No charge-the expensive $28.00 hose was covered, just two weeks of nice riding weather with no bike. Fast forward to April 1st, MAJOR vacuum leak. Drove diretcly to the dealers and had a tec look at it. He knew the bike and the problem, reached up under he tank and manipulated the hose and the issue stopped. The disturbing thing is he said they just put a piece of generic hose on last October not some expensive Yami part. So I dropped the bike off on April 4th and it will be 3 weeks this Saturday and still no bike and the response is it's not done yet. Granted they are stacked with bikes in the holding tent, most likely for service, but give me some solid info to fill my doubt. Point is, most likely the YES program is ok for someone who doesn't work on his own ride and doesn't ride much and wants peace of mind, but be prepared to wait, for I guess the new money customers will be serviced first, hey they already got yours. Can't do ANY mods including just adding pipes without voiding the warranty, and keep all receipts for oil changes you do yourself. I think I am just going to forget about the YES program and pull off the AIS and put new pipes on the bike or just maybe trade it in on an HD.

The only reason I would buy the warranty is for resale. If you plan on dumping the bike it would look good if it had a 4yr extented on it.

Figure it will cost about $10.25 per month over the 4 years. I would.

If you get a lemon like me it is. Anyone know how to make my RS stop puking gas?

One Major part fails and it pays for itself.

I got it, never used it but the price was OK. I primarily got it for the ignition module and the more expensive parts just in case. But yes, if you are going to mod alot, most mods will void the warranty.

A buddy of mine just bought one of the new 900cc stars and he got the warranty, but he is never going to work on his bike... ever. For him it was worth every penny and if they would have charged him twice what they did it would be worth it.

Me, not so much, I am always taking the Chicken apart for fun, I swear working and taking that thing apart is therapy for me.

It all depends on you, oh and they told him he would go to the front of the list in the service department too...

Don't jump the gun MS1700, you may not have a lemon...

I would bet the float is set too high...the carb is not made by Yami, It's Mikuni, been around for a lot of years, and well respected, but you may have one that was assembled on friday.... Or the needle valve has some trash build up..

I got the YES program but here is how it cam about. I was about to by a 2006 from a dealer in Indianapolis. Just for fun I got a web quote from a dealer in Peru. After I received the quote I called them. They are 100 miles away but I got the same bike 2006 Silverado, Vance & Hines Longshots HS, helmet, cover and YES program for the same price as the bike alone here in INDY. Couldn't pass it up.

Haven't used any service yet. After 2 years I still only have 700 miles on it. Too many hours at work...
