new type of tire on the 09 HD RK? 3 Years, 1 Month ago

Was reading the fold out poster found in this month's Bagger magazine and I noticed that HD is touting the redesign of the 09 Road Kings all the way down to the tire. The text said something along the lines that the new tires have a different (harder) compound in the center of the tread and the outside of the crown (chickenstrips) are still of the stickier compound.

I see no reason you couldn't run this tire on a R* of course. Gonna look around and find some links to post but I was wondering if anyone has heard of this yet.

I read an add for a tire made like that bout a year or so back. I think it was a Brigstone? Dennis kirk sold it.

Metzler is supposed to have a new tire like that. Claim close to car tire milage and only 10 percent more. Same deal with multi surface compounds.

I can't find any information on HD's web site or anywhere. I'll check out my friends 09 RK this weekend and see what brand it is and report back.

Dunlop D402 or D407. Dunlop has come standard on all new HD bikes since 1984. The dual compound has been out before but they are pushing it as part of the "new" 09 make over.

That's what I was going to post. Heck, back in 1999 I bought a Royal Star Venture and the front was a Bridgestone dual compound tire. I got 33,000 miles out of that first front tire and the center was still good when it was shot in the sides.

So how come we never hear of anyone running those tires on R*s? Surely they make our size. Its just that it seems like every tire thread is a search for the tire with the highest mileage.

Probably because they have HD on the sidewall. HD has a contract with Dunlop to put their name on the sidewall. just a thought.
