Fuel additives 3 Years, 1 Month ago
Been using Seafoam periodically to keep my fuel system clean, with no problems. My question is.... will other fuel system additives such as STP do the same thing?

I'm no expert on the subject by any means, but I have used Yamaha Ring Free from time to time as well as Sea Foam.
I'm sure those in the know will chime in soon.

Honestly, I've never even heard of seafoam before I started messin around here. I couldn't tell you about it. I have used a few ounces of Berrymans B12 Chemtool after having my bike in storage for about a month. I've used it in other things and it works well. I've always been picky about what gas I'll run also, so I've not really needed to run a cleaner often.

I'm a SeaFoam user, but have also heard lots of great things about MMO (Marvel Mystery Oil). Search the forum for info..

I began using MMO with no ill effects and switched to Seafoam because I have an 04 and is suseptable to the dreaded SVS. Had SVS once and used Curts SVS Cure to fix it... with an overdose of Seafoam. I now use it regularly.

I recently had some vibrations return (from SVS?) and hit the carb good with Seafoam Deep Creep spray, cleaned out the air filter and had dramatic improvement.

Good stuff... if it can do that, it has my vote to use as an additive.

It really does not matter what you use.

I don't use any kind of treatment on a regular basis. In the spring, however, I do use some carb cleaner, or water if I run out.

I find that it's not uncommon for my bike to run on the front when I first start it up in the spring so .... I warm it up, spray some carb cleaner through the throat and let it sit for a while. Start it up and it blows a bit of black. Do it a couple of more times and it runs like a top.

It seems the occasional startups over the winter and spring are enough to carbon things up (probably the plugs).

Why use carb cleaner ... only because it comes in a spray can and my other favorite (MMO) comes in a bottle.

Wondering?? Would you put a certain amount in the gas tank? I also thought that someone said that and to give it a good run and then change the oil. Is changing the oil because any carbon or what ever particles would maybe contanimate the oil a bit and would just be a cautionary measure. Then again, if its in liquid form could you just put it in a spray bottle and spray some into the cab?
