Dyna 3000 5 Years, 2 Months ago
Its been advertised that this Dyna 3000 ignition unit is supposed to dramatically increase power by changing rev limiters, advance curves and checks the TPS operation and MAP sensor operation. I'm sure there a some who have it on their roadie. Before I spend 300 dollars, I want some first hand experience before I buy this. Your thoughts

I'm no expert, but I have one on my bike. I think with the stock eng, all you gain are about 500 rpm. So. I'm not sure if it was worth the money, or not. I guess if you beef up the engine you could have some fun. Perhaps others will offer more. Good luck. I was advised to keep the old unit just in case of failure.

I don't have the Dyna module, but I did pick up the Yamaha Speedstar module. It was a steal for $103 new on eBay, so I figured what the Hell... They do some basic things the same, but there are no selectable curves or maps on the Yami module. But like EXBCMC said, I'll gain at least 500 RPM on the rev limit, I understand it makes starting much easier, and provides a hotter spark at the plug. I wouldn't pay the retail for it, but at 1/3 the regular price, I'll get a little boost. Dyna's are supposed to be great once you start digging into the jugs and changing pistons & compression ratios & such. Maybe when I get the 110 c.i. big bore kit and the 45mm carb...

Hey ZZ

Don't have a dyna but I believe it lets you set to 5000 rpm's. The 1700's have (stock) a limit of 4750. So a 250 gain. Not gonna make you jump up and say "Damn, she's fast now!". IMO anywho. If you have a 1600 ( 4250 stock) you could get a 1700 ignition from someone who went to the dyna and save yourself some money.

Course this only works if my numbers are right .

Well, if anyone has a emc from their 1700 they want to part with perhaps I would consider trying this.

Try over on the Road Star Riders site if no one pops in here. I've seen them for sale cheap from time to time.
