Baffle-ing 3 Years ago
Hi all, I have an 04 R* with long shot pipes from yamaha. They came with the bike and I think I would like to get baffles for it. I leave for work like 4 am and would like to take the bike, but it's kinda loud.
I know they have long ones and short ones. I would like your opinion, are short ones quiet enough? the carbs been jetted for the pipes and filter will there be an adverse effect due to baffles? Are after market baffles any good and would any with the proper diameter fit properly? which would you recommend. Thank you for any input, have a great one.

Man, if you're leaving for work at 4a.m. and you don't have some serious baffling in your pipes, you're going to become a very unpopular guy very quickly.

To be honest, even baffles in those pipes are not likely to be adequate... you really should consider some other pipe with muffler arrangement altogether!

I have HK's. They are loud. I leave for work @ 5am. No one complains. Of course, I don't like most of my neighbors anyway. Seriously, I don't roll it hard leaving the neighborhood; so its all good. I don't start my bike till I'm ready to leave. I pull the choke out; start her up, go slow. When I get out of my neighborhood, I put the choke back in then roll the throttle if I want.

I've found that the Roadie isn't too loud unless you get on the throttle or the hiway (I have a stage 1 exhaust)---but I live on the top of a hill so I pretty much coast for the first block and by the time I get to where I need to hit the throttle--the people don't know where I came from--just like the buses and trucks that run down that road.
And SlyGuy---using the choke can get you some "neighborhood speed" without getting on the throttle until you are a few blocks from home. Like the interstate on-ramp--then all bets are off--they bought close to the hiway---deal with it!!!! Ronnie in MD VROOM VROOM---ride hard but safe

You are correct on the Roadhouse pipes. I have the 2-1 and it has a nice, deep tone at idle and low speeds. Open it up and it will really growl at you.

Can't go wrong with Roadhouse. Their duals probably sound even better. I wish I knew firsthand!
