I was out for ride with a buddie yesterday, I went to hammer him off the line when I heard and felt a clunck at which time I let off the throtle and then it was fine. I dont know what it was? only started recently yesterday and happened again when I Attempt to punch it off of line I have never felt what clutch slipping is like, any ideas? other then dont punch it off the line anymore.

You may just need to adjust the clutch free play. I should have about a nickel's thickness between the lever and the mount.

It's 4th/5th gear that's the problem.

A slipping clutch will usually happen in higher gears, when you hit the throttle, the engine speeds up but the bike doesn't accelerate at the same pace..a definite clunk is not usually a symtom..I wonder if your drive belt is so loose that it jumped a cog..

Doc is that in response to the 1st gear ingaging? or do you feel that is all of the same issue?
and what do you think of Flash backs theroy of juming a cog? I appreciate all the help!!!

I dont believe 04 was up for tranny recalls?

No tranny recalls on the 04 so you're OK there.

Yes Flash is correct ... it your belt is too loose then it can skip a cog on hard acceleration. To check ..... use a HD gauge or grab the belt halfway between the pulley and give it a twist .... it should twist less than 1/4 of the way, 1/8 is about ideal.

The engaging is probably another issue related to too much slack in the clutch cable.
