stock pipes terrible 5 Years, 2 Months ago
you know this sucks i put the stock pipes back on and the bike runs like crap even with the mod done on the pipes i put those old slip on drag pipes and the thing runs great what is up with that no back firing threw the exhaust with the stock pipes but it backfire threw the carb sometimes when i blip the throttle at a light but with the drag pipes on deceleration it pops like mad i keep changing back and forth because I'm afraid of sucking a valve with the drag pipes on yet allot of people say it won't happen with a Yamaha if i could just get rid of the popping i would stay with the drags until i get my new pipes

Post edited by: junglebear11, at: 2007/03/09 13:14

Put the stockers back on and don't blip. You're not supposed to blip. All roadies live in a "No Blipping Zone". If you just can't live without blipping (Like me ) try turning your accel screw in.

JungleBear, You gotta start using periods, or question marks or something. Man , my brain almost fell out trying to read and comprehend that mile long sentence of yours! Just a suggestion , as it will help others help you.BB

Ok, now that I've ranted for a second , I have a question. Where is your pms screw set (idle mixture). If it is stock, and you have not turned up to richen the idle curcuit, that's why your drag pipes are backfiring so much on decel.

Post edited by: Big Bear, at: 2007/03/09 17:09

Well, you have a good sense of humor, and that counts for alot. Now, were you turning it out while running the slip-ons, or with the stockers? And when you say, popping on decel, do you mean the typical popping you hear on alot of bikes , or something else?
BTW, not that you care, but I had to teach myself how to type, and it was not easy for me either. So I do understand.

Post edited by: Big Bear, at: 2007/03/09 17:36

heck i've been trying to teach myself for seven years. most people just get used to it, but i do here it all the time,. ,bad habbit i guess.the popping i'm talking about is the typical pop.pop.pop that you even here in a car when your tached up tight and backing off the throttle. but i some times wonder about sucking a valveas far as the pms screw it didn't seem to matter what set of pipes i was running it would do the same think. it seems to be the open exhaust i believe that is causing the pop, you don't here it with the stock pipes ,altho i do here it some times after i did the mods on the stock pipes but i have to be tached up real tight to get it to do it with them

I was reading your post "fuel rich", and have a question, Is your choke working right? If it is on in the slightest, it will have the idle curcuit way too rich, possibly causing the problems your having. I need some choke to start my bike "cold" regardless of outside temps (even only 1 "notch" in the summer, but thats choke regardless). Do you feel 4 "notches" when pulling your choke? Your bike should have responded positively to turning the pms up alittle with slip-ons. Just some thoughts.

Post edited by: Big Bear, at: 2007/03/09 17:53
