Re:lowers? 3 Years ago
i already made my brackets out of aluminum angle and they are adjustable i just need to get more plexi to go with a better design.so far all i got wrapped up in them is just the cost of the bolts everything else was free.i would love to just go out and get bucks lowers but i got laid off last friday from my maint. position at work and have to bump down to a lower classifacation next week. so till the autoworkers get back to work money is tight right now.

Hey Bangngearz, I would like to see a picture of those HD lowers on the roadstar can you post a pic ? I have the National Cycle chrome lowers and I'm not really happy with the way they look.

MS1700, you need to rethink how you have those mounted. Mounting them to the outside of the factory mounting point leaves too big of a gap between the deflector and the fork tube, which allows a lot of air to sneak past them.

What I'm doing is mounting them on the back side of the factory mounting point using spacers to fill the gap. I drilled and tapped the spacers to 1/4-20 and used two socket head machine screws 1/2" in length and loc-tite to hold things together.

Diagram showing the mounting configuration (spacers on mine worked out to be 0.650" long and the O.D. is 1/2"
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v632/MrFurious45833/Deflector_Mount.jpg

And here's a pic of one of them clamped in place to show how much closer they will be to the fork leg. Note that the deflector angles inward a little in this shot, but when mounted they run parallel and they're a little further out at the very bottom.

I haven't gotten to ride with them yet (just installed yesterday), so I'm wondering how much they'll flex/vibrate at highway speeds being the deflectors are only 0.075" thick. If they flex or vibrate more than I like though, it will be a simple matter of adding a length of 1/8" thick aluminum or SS bar stock run along the length of the mounting tab to stiffen things up. Doing this would just require shorting the spacer 1/8" and drilling another hole or two in the deflector lip to bolt them together.

I get it now. Wasn't exactly sure how you were mounting those. My fron turn signals are mounted different than yours as I also have passing lamps. Don't think my setup would work with your mount as part of my light bar might get in the way.

Rode in to work this morning with the lowers on (without a windshield) and it almost felt like I had the shield on. I'm assuming the lowers pushed most of the wind up and over me. Need to adjust them back a little as they were vibrating into the turn signals a tad.

Thanks for the diagram Mr F.....helped a lot.

Yeah, now that I think about it I don't know how that would work with the passing lamp setup and the turn signals being mounted lower. As mine sit, there's about 3/8" clearance between the deflector and the back of the turn signal.

Re:lowers? 3 Years ago
MrF....been talked about lowers recently as I have mine mounted but am having vibration problems. How did yours turn out. Any vibration?

I'm thinking at least some of the vibration is because the lower holes we're using are part of the light bar and isn't a real solid point to mount to unlike the windshield mounts. With both of your mounting points being on this bar, I'm wondering if you have a lot of vibration. Please let me know how it worked out for you.

Thanks bud....greeny
