I guess that depends on the nature of that "improper shift". lol. I don't know if you coulda messed anything up there, I'm sure someone around here can shed more light on that. I spray a lil white lithium grease in the rubber boots at each end of the shift rod. I'll also take the shift lever off so I can make sure the shaft isn't corroded and is greased good. I'll just spray a good penetrating lube on it. I've seen bikes with shifting problems when the linkage gets dry and nasty from getting moisture in there and causing it to corrode some.
