Crash Bars and Lowers 4 Years ago
Just wanted to ask you guys opinion on crash bars and lowers. I have installed the yamaha oem lowers on my bike already. I have seen a Baron's crash bar in a J&P catalog that says they work with oem lowers. Anyone had any experience with this bar and does it really work with the oem lowers? Hate to order only to find out it doesnt work with my lowers. Really want a bar but if it comes to a bar OR lowers I will stick with my lowers. Also a question on the lowers. What lowers are most effective at reducing buffeting and extra wind? I see some install the HD lowers and seem to be satisfied with them. I have the chrome lowers similar to the HD lowers on my vstar 1100 and they seem to work better than the clear oem lowers on the R*. Hoping someone with experience with both might be able to answer this. Thanks for any help guys.

Oh yeah guys, I'm gonna get a pic of my ride up one of the days!!

A stupid question, but if I am thinking of the same thing ya'll are talking about, the lowers are the plastic things that are on a Harley Davidson Ultra Classic right?

Hey, Java those are the National cycle chrome lowers there in the pic.
I have just installed a set of those and they work well with my lindby multi bar. The only things is the picture that is posted looks like the one on Cruiser customizing web site the picture is mis-leading because once these things are installed and adjusted so they clear the gas tanks at full turn they stick out forrm the front forks about 3.5" and don't look good.

I'm thinking about taking mine off for this reason ? I'm trying to fiqure out how to make a bracket to mount them by that will pull them in closer like the pic you posted. If anyone else has these and they fit as in the picture please tell me how you mounted them.

I have the yami silverado windshield.

I have noticed the space between the forks and lowers that you are talking about. The chrome ones on my vstar are about 1/8" from the forks if I remember right.

I have had the setup you're interested in for a couple of years. The Yamaha OEM lowers clear the Baron's bar by about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch. Never had a problem with them hitting. Also have Kyereakin (?) highway pegs mounted on the Barons bar. Works great. I think the bar is of high quality and looks great on the bike.

Actually those are the HD lowers. I didnt mount mine like the others. I cut the long support arm off and drilled an additional hole in mine bolted them straight to the brackets on provided on the windshield mounts. No spacers required. that being said I am not sure it is the best way to go. MS1700 has a post on how he did his which I actually like better.
