I've got a set of earplugs. When I took mine off, that was the first thing that was messin' with me: The sheer amount of noise from the wind. It nearly drowned out the sound of the motor. It was unbelievable.

Try and smoke a cigar and ride without a windshield! I needed a new windshield and bought one that is factory fit but is 3" wider than the Yami one. I also got the 21" so it's kind like a Tulsa on a goldwing.. which I like. (kinda sorta)

I think y'll got the wimp thin all wrong. It's not whether you use a windshild or not. It is that you are riding you scoot to where you are going. The wimps, IMO, are those driving their motorhome with their motorcycle locked up in an enclosed trailer, usually brand X.
If anyone has ridden several hundred miles in a day and only stopped because your butt was in need of some blood, your stomach nurishment and you bladder some relief you are not a wimp, you're a motorcycle rider and none of us are wimps.

Wimp? Yeah.
Like about everyone else or else why is there so many baggers/dressers eh?
I had the standard size windshield on and couldn't stand it. I had never had one before, a few bikini type fairings but nothing like that big old signboard before. I do like taking some of the pressure off at speed but I want my face in the wind. I found the Yamaha Boulevard works for me. Takes some pressure off you but delivers the bugs to the face really well! I like it. So I am about half a wimp I guess.

I run shieldless 90% of the time. The Helen run called for rain , so I left it on. And it rained like no get out on the way home , so...... Yes the look is 5 times nicer IMHO with it off , but for long trips , gotta have it. BB

In all my years, never had a shield... rode across the country 3 times.
Recently, I tried my buddies R* w/shield, and sure enough, it was a 'nother experience, and if I was riding on the open road at higher speeds, I'd definitely want one... but where I typically cruise around on Southern New England back roads at 45 or less... no shield, no way!!!
