I followed this when I removed the AIS but it doesn't say anything about the surge tank and it hoses either I guess they are still needed for something

I didn't see any mention of it either when I removed my CA model AIS stuff. I took the hoses off of it because it looked useless to me. That was a month ago and about 1500 miles. My Caguama is running great.

THPPPTH!!! PHEW!!!! FINALLY!! I got a 2.5" to 3" adapter, and had to fit the 3" end INSIDE of the air filter boot. I got that in and got it squared away.

With the manifold vent-hose, I decided to go with the miniature K&N filter, and I had to core that out the rubber boot with a knife until I could get the hose to fit inside of it. Now that I'm all done, I love the way it looks. The intake hisses a lot, but I'm used to that, since I put a massive air intake on my Jeep some time ago.

My ride home, in a little bit, will be the test.

Well, I did mine at work yesterday, and then rode home. Oh god... Nerve-wracking! The bike had significantly reduced torque in first and second gear, and none in any higher gear. In third, fourth, and fifth, it acted like it was choking and coughing and was going to die any second. When I got home, I put the stock air-box back on.

If you swapped the stock for this 'new' setup and had it setup for the stock box then you need to rejet.

Ah.... Re-jetting sounds like a huge PITA. I think I'll just keep it stock, for now. Maybe later, I'll have another go at it.
